What "man jobs" have you done today?

Mowed the lawn. For various reasons/excuses it didn't get cut since dying off during the draught. It's since bounced back and now looks reasonably decent.

Found this timelapse of the process, and how we removed the lintel and lower section of the wall :D

Of all the block walls we've taken down this was by far the most stubborn - the sand to cement ration I swear was reversed - also, having the blocks laid on the flat did not help!

Much easier to remove :p

Far from a days work, and far from being a job solely done by me - but we've resized and steeled our gable end ready for sliding doors with triangular pitched window. Vaulted ceiling kitchen will be in this space alongside a mezzanine level set further back to overlook the whole area.

Looks good, did the roof not need any strengthening with removing the brick walls contacting the roof?

We installed new 8inch rafters on the face as the old ones were starting to rot behind the soffits, the rafter one back from that we glued and screwed an additional 4x2 to to make it essentially an 8 inch rafter also. Between those we added a good row of new noggins, and faced the whole peaked area with 1" ply (which will be where the new window attaches to).

When it was re-blocked those noggins between the 2 x 8inches rafters got tied in.

There is a whole load of steelwork in there too - an A frame at the face buried 2ft in to the ground surrounded by a few tonne of concrete, a decent sized ridge beam going to a second A frame towards the back, which bolts to the top of existing walls, rather than going to ground.

What are you building by the way? I mean it looks like a hell of lot of work for what looks like *sees fairly close and grotty dorma in background* a low cost area?
Yep, that low cost area in the Channel Islands where grotty houses come with swimming pools.
Do you just enjoy making a tit of yourself in every thread?
