I've been out of the loop for quite some time and I need to get additional memory for a pc project.

HP Compaq 8200 Elite Small Form Factor PC

Processor - Intel Core i5-2400 (3.10 GHz, 6MB cache, 4 cores)
Chipset - Intel Q67 Express7
Memory slots - 4 DIMM

There are 2 free slots. Currently, pc has 4 GB. I want to fill the other 2 slots.

Any advice on what memory I coult put?

Thanks in advance.

How much memory do you want to end up with?

It should support 32GB of DDR3 (4 x 8GB).

It's not going to need anything exotic, any DDR3-1600 sticks should work.

Thanks. I need to run a vm and need more RAM, so I was thinking to step up from 4 GB to 8 GB. Unless I can put in 4+4 GB on the two empty slots. But then, I would have a config of 2+2+4+4. Not sure it that is doable. Currently running Windows 10.

Would there be any difference usng one slot for a 4 GB module leaving a slot spare, or using both slots for a 2+2?

Adding 2 x 4GB will be a safe option.

It'll probably work with a single 4GB added, but you'd need to check the system specifications. A single 4GB stick will be slightly slower than 2 x 2GB but would only be noticeable if you're running benchmarks.
