What parts of your car need to warm up and what is the best way to do so?

The only parts I know that are effected are the engine and the gearbox. The gearbox can be stiff at first, but once warmed up it is like butter...

The gearknob in the Civic (it's alloy so it's freezing). My girlfriend embarassingly has a glove covering it most of the time :(

Brakes and tyres work better when warm too.

Also on my car I think there is a knocking sound coming from the front suspension when the car is cold. I suspect new shocks might be in order.

The roof on my motor. The handbook recommends that I don't put it down in temps under 5 degrees. The impression I get is that it can crack in really cold temperatures.

Leather seats, luckily just a button press sorts it out :)

Agree'd, but the leather steering wheel is worse in winter, i find the seats generally warm up pretty quickly even without them being heated.

It's normally the plastic rear screens that go. Chap at work wrote his MX-5 roof off just before Christmas when the rear screen cracked.

Reminds me of the forumer who was purchasing a Mk1 MX-5 recently, the owner was demonstrating the frosted top and it split like a banana... very amusing, unless you were to have owned the MX5 that is

Tyres, Engine, Gearbox, Torque Converter, Diff, Brakes all need to be warm to work effectively.

Lets play 'Spot the Auto Driver'...

Yep Near enough the same for me!... plus Leather Seats... but as has already been said a button press sorts that!!!.. :)

wrote it off :o

 a new rear screen for the MG is only £100 fitted, why is the MX-5 one so expensive?

auto box / engine / fingers (couldnt feel my fingertips this morning) / leather (no heated leather seats :/ ).

Probably needs an entire roof in order to replace the screen. It's the same with the new Mini cabrio. If you crack the screen, it's new roof time.

not sure which mx5 you mean, but a new roof is about £200 iirc.
Wheeler Dealers did one up over 2x30min shows ages back (was repeated on sky recently) and they put a new roof on.

i think in this instance the rear screen might of cracked which then caused the driver to crash his mx5, rather than the crack being enough to write the car off.
