£1000 phone doesn't really do anything much better than a £300 phone.
Except they do.
The same analogy applies for many more things then does it not?

Why did you care about updates? My first "smart" phone was an original Moto G that I bought new. I used it until it stopped getting Android updates, then I installed Cyanogenmod. When Cyanogenmod went **** up, I moved to LineageOS. Finally, the guy that was maintaining LineageOS for the Moto G dropped it. Meaning if I wanted updates, I had to do it myself or move to another phone. So after nearly seven years of use, late last year I bought a used Oneplus 5T and will use that until it stops receiving Android updates and when that happens I'll move onto LineageOS. Provided the phone doesn't die first.
The Moto G still works by the way. Only retired due to software. Even the battery will retain a charge all day. But heavy use will only give a few hours of use. But I was never far from somewhere it couldn't be plugged in.
They may be a bit faster which makes no difference when you're on OCUK and other social media sites. The screen may be a bit better which makes not much difference on a 6" screen and so on....
There's a gulf in difference with screens if you are comparing a £300 phone to a £1000 phone, amongst other things:

What phone do you use?
They can do some things cheaper phones can't
Such as?
I can't see any need for a better screen than the one I've got when I'm watching documentaries at dinnertime on a 6" screen
My G8 Plus camera is excellent, I regularly see £1000 smartphone pictures uploaded to Facebook by friends and there's no difference.
Same with battery, if I was paying 5x more for a phone I'd want my battery to last 15 days compared to the 3 I get out of the G8 Plus.
Software updates - I've had 3 since I bought it in December.
I will concede that games will run faster.
I mean, there are differences but if you can't see them that's a bonus for you.
The S8+ is a quality phone, but it wasn't £300 when it came out.
It's a Motorola g8+ he's talking about, not a galaxy s8+

The screen on the Note 10+ is absolutely incredible to look at. Cheaper phones might have OLED-type screens but they aren't as good as this one. Since the screen is how you interact with a phone, having the best screen possible is a useful improvement over a "good enough for me" screen on a cheaper device.
Still rocking my Galaxy S7 and, so far, I see very little reason to upgrade. It still does everything I ask of it and the battery lasts all day. I don’t take many photos so don’t really need a better camera. I have no need or incentive to change and nothing any manufacturer has shown me so far makes me want to.
A lot of cheaper phones wouldn't usually have oled screens. They would normally be LED.
