What retro things have you done today?

Awesome games. I have fond memories of playing the original C&C on a pair of linked up Compaq Desktops at my mates Uncles house.

I have all the originals of those too up there somewhere. Red Alert 2 was my first main foray into online gaming as 56k didn't really hinder you back then. Well apart from when a 3v3 match took over two hours and it had to reconnect. Good times.

we used to do that at work at weekends me and a mate would go in the office and play C&C all affternoon with dominoes pizza. we would have a time limit of when your where allowed to commence battle so you could both build a decent army

I remember our school used to allow some of us to play C&C on the LAN after school on some days many years ago, indeed good times!

I still have real fond memories of getting my Pace 56k external modem from Staples and getting on BT wireplay with the free disk. Think it had Big Red Racing on. I still to this day don't know how I convinced my Mom and Dad to get it me, and get me subscribed to Demon Internet!

Might get my Dreamcast out too, really want to play House of the Dead but no CRT sadly, but I do fancy a bit of Sega Bass Fishing.

Last weekend I had a nostalgia episode for the pain of getting glquake running on early linux systems (I started off on RedHat 5.2 Apollo). This was right in the middle of several painful transitions aout->elf, and libc 5 -> glibc (libc6). Glibc added further pain by adding version symbols - net long term good - but in the short term you also had to worry about glibc major version incompatibilities. So redhat 5.2 shipped glibc 2.0.7 and a compat libc5 layer.

The issue though was glquake for linux was linked against libc5 itself, but the 3dfx glide libs were very quickly glibc so when you went to play glquake it would puke on startup due to the different libc runtimes.

I vague remembered this but forgot the exact order of resolving it, it's quite tough now as so many of the old ftps / websites are dead but managed to get glquake running at about 2fps in bochs on Redhat 6.1 (Cartman)!

Got my 360 set up (I consider this retro since it's 20 years old), playing the original Forza Horizon and man it still looks and plays great.

Saying that, comparing it to the later editions it doesn't feel like it has really improved, obviously it is better graphically nowadays but the look, feel and style seems the same, flaws and all.

I guess it seems to be working so who am I complain.

Started playing Jet Set Radio Future. The original Jet Set Radio was my favorite game on the Dreamcast but I never got a chance to play Future at the time of release
