So recently the Mrs and I got rid of our (my, she refused to drive it) Volvo 850 and bought a little Abarth. It came with a year warranty..
It had new pads and disks fitted before sale along with some other work (cambelt and service). Since we got it it had squeaky brakes but after about 500 miles they started to get very hot and be noisy even when not braking. So I phoned round some local garages but none within about 10 miles would do warranty work but all said they'd take a look. We bought the car about 70 miles away and didn't really want to drive it too much if it had a brake issue. Took it into a recommended garage who diagnosed it as the master cylinder sticking and replaced it, at cost to us as couldn't get the warranty work done. Ok we thought and drove it home, only to find that the noise was still there, although the heat had gone. Took it back to the garage and found out they hadn't stripped and refit the pads or anything because the wheels turned freely on the ramp. So asked them to do this. They've then called back to say they've found an issue with the caliper slides where a bolt was blocking the return of the front right pad (which makes sense due to the noise coming from right side) and have fit new slide kit and cleaned all calipers. They blame it on the previous brake fitters. They want to charge £120 for the privilege.
Now I'm alright with the warranty being useless as the car was priced fairly and was sold (included in list price) as only engine and drive chain (so I think brakes are excluded anyway but not 100% sure). However, I know I have to pay the garage who repaired it, but where do I stand with the original selling garage? I let them know but only after taking it to the first place, which was in hindsight a mistake but I panicked. Doubt I'd get any money back but what would motors do? I obv don't trust the original garage to have done everything else right too so is it worth getting a service?
Hoping to collect the car tomorrow with no issues left and finally enjoy it but who knows..
Short version: I'm an idiot for not contacting selling garage first.
