So, it finally happened, my wonderfully spotless 2209WFP got a smudge in the middle of the screen, I tried to rub it off (Not thinking of course!) and only made it worse, so was wondering what people use when they clean their 2209WFP? I'm wanting to buy a proper specialist cleaner and not just wet cloth and towel as I want to make sure i don't damage to screen at all, thanks.

You can buy anti static wet wipes, or just use an anti static lens cloth and wet it. Alternatively, you may use canned air to blow away the dusts.

brillo pad lol :D:D:D

With my Monitor/TV i got a small lense type cloth that is fantastic on mine, mine is HD TV used as monitor and clean as a whistle :p

Just use a wet microfibre towel, like everybody else?

It's not a science, it's cleaning...

agreed, youre monitor is not that sensitive you can use a slightly damped microfibre cloth without it blowing up etc

Yeah, but once you do that, you notice over time it has a degrading effect. I'm sorry that you're so spoilt you don't look after your equipment, so yeah.

Have used a damp mf cloth on all my monitors and never noticed this 'degrading effect' you mention.

As said, cleaning really isn't a science.

Idealy you want to blow of as much dust as possible with your mouth or a can of compressed air, then use a clean, damp microfiber cloth, moving it in one direction and folding it frequently so your using a fresh area and not scraping dust accross the screen. Finaly use a second clean microfiber cloth untill screen is dry to minimise streaking.

A microfiber cloth will absorb the dust more than a normal lint free cloth rather then collect it ot the leading edge and drag it across the screen, it's also softer so less likely to scratch the screen.

You may not notice any damage by using such and such method/cloth but over time the tiny scratches will build up and the surface of the screen will dull. An extreme example would be to get a clear sheet of perspex and rubb it with some fine sand paper, after a while it doesn't look scratched but you can no longer see through it.

Considering how often my screen needs to be cleaned I can't see that being much of a problem, how could you avoid this anyway, don't bother cleaning your screen at all? Then I suppose it wouldn't matter how unscratched your screen is because of the layer of dust obscuring the panel. If anyone has a consistant problem with this damaging/degrading there monitor so noticeably, then they should buy a monitor which won't suffer from this as much (hard coated TFT or even CRT?), or buy a new monitor frequently. I'm not awhere of any magic solution you can spray on your screen which will remove any impurities and then evaporate away taking them with it, leaving behind a clean screen as good as new.

Erm, unless your monitor is in a metal shop, I can't see any dust causing any discernible damage, especially not with a damp microfibre. I doubt you'd see anything noticeable within the life of the monitor even if you did it dry.

I use some half decent microfibre towels on my car in conjunction with some detail spray to clean light road dirt/dust off it, having mint paint, I'd certainly notice if it caused any ill effects. I know a clear coat may be a bit tougher than a monitor panel, but then, the dirt/dust being cleaned off would be a lot tougher too :D
