Hi

When I bought the car it had a Kenwood KDC-5021 CD Player installed. This sounded dreadful - no amount of adjustment could change the harsh tinny sound

I scrapped this and replaced it with a Pioneer DEH1300R which is a thousand percent better. This has 4 independent 45W RMS speaker outputs

I'm looking to upgrade the speakers but I only really want to spend about £200 for all four - is this doable?

The fronts are 6.5", the backs are 5"

What about these - Infinity Kappa 42.7i for the back speakers? Stupid question - is that price for two speakers? Any other recommendations?

How about these for the front - Infinity Kappa 652.7i

Are Infinity any good? I know far more about home Hi-Fi kit than car audio kit! I'm looking for decent value for money too - in otherwords if something for £120 is much better than I'd consider it, likewise if it's just as good for £80 :)

I'm looking for good sound quality with punchy bass. I don't want the bass to boom, the mid range to be harsh or non-existant or the treble to be too over powering

I'd like a system with a lot of clarity. I was planning to keep the OEM tweeters - good idea?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

I bought some Infinity 605CS's from Talk-Audio forums a few months back. Got them for a bargaintastic £45!

After buying some Dynamat, I spent the weekend installing and setting them up properly, and I have to say I'm damn impressed with the results.

The bass isn't as good as I was hoping, but as they aren't amped yet and I do have a sub, I'm not too bothered. Like you, I love punchy bass and loud boomy chavtastic bass is not for me.

I'm running a low-budget Pioneer head unit with a cheap Mutant amp and a cheap (£8 from ebay, hehe) RM 10" sub. Tbh, it does sound damn good for a system on a budget!

If I was you, I wouldn't get flash rear speakers as they'll be overkill. I'm just using a pair of papercone Kenwood co-axials. The all-round sound is loud and clear.

Check the link in my sig for a few pics :)

Hi!

Thanks for the reply - that does look like a nice setup there!

I was looking at replacing the rear speakers as these seem to be the weakest link in my current system. I've also realised that I said that I needed 5" speakers and I linked to a 4" speaker - Doh!

What does the Dynamat do? Is it worth having?

Dynamat is a heavy adhesive matting which stops panels rattling, and provides sound insulation for the car. This way the sound generated goes into the cabin, and doesn't leak out backwards. If done well, the results can be amazing. Brown Bread (brand of matting, not Hovis!) is pretty good too.
