What speed ADSL can i get?

Looking into getting rid of my NTL phone line and broadband and going ADSL but am unsure at what sort of speeds i will be able to get, if i were to go for the 8mb broadband i may only be able to get 2mb out of it which is less than the 4mb i have now, is there anyway of knowing?, I cannot enter my phone number in the isp's websites as i have an NTL phoneline and they always say i cannot get it.

If you check Samknows you'll be able to do a postcode check. It's even less accurate than the check based on phone number but it'll give you something to go on.
