What Tattoo for my forearm?

It's a social perception thing.

You see someone wearing a Burberry cap and you try and tell me you don't think they're common. You'd call them a chav without a second thought.

Same goes for seeing someone with a tattoo. Not saying it's right but the stigma is still there.

only when its a tattoo of the persons favourite football team! that is the only tattoo that if i see it i'll think that the person is "working class" as you so put it.

Well, i have 10 Tattoos, 5 on each arm, 4 on each forearm! Each to thier own i suppose. I had them done for various reasons. Like one for my Dear mum and dad who have passed away and one for my Twin brother who passed away, etc etc. I am proud of the Tattoos. Only 2 of them i am not happy with only because they are around each wrist. The rest are great and everybody likes them at work and at home.

A tattoo does not make you a thug or the lowest of low. Look how many famous / successful people have them!

If i see someone with tattoos i have an automatic negative reaction, and a lot of people i know do too. maybe I am narrow minded, but i dont mean to be.

Statement about class was probably a bit OTT and i think opinions on this matter will definately depend on the environment people are raised in. this means that it is inevitable that some people (like me) will show some kind of negative reaction to someone that visually fits common bad stereotypes.

Agreed, I just think they look horrible and I can't stop thinking about "how will they look when you're 50" ;) a tattoo is for life and not just for Xmas :D

I don't give a damn about what my two tattoos will look like when I'm 50. When I'm 50 I will have had ~30 years of enjoyment out of my tattoos. :)

I will say this though - I thought carefully where I wanted my tattoos to be placed. Both I am able to cover up should I wish to; I wouldn't have a tattoo on my neck for example.

It is a statement of bull****. I'm confident that if people went for job interviews with exactly the same qualifications and skills wearing short-sleeve shirts but with some of them having visible tattoos on their arms you would see a clear pattern emerging.

No, any decent employer will judge you on your skillset, personality, and attitude. Not whats on your arm.

If they didn't, I wouldn't want to work there.

There are hundreds of thousands of people who have tattoos, but could be "branded" as upperclass. So you're point is completely invalid.

It's your personal perception not a social perception as general.

My opinion is that if you have to ask what tattoo to get, then you shouldn't get one.

Totally, clearly if you need help deciding it's because your worried what other people will think of it or your just getting a tatoo because it seems like a good idea.

I remember someone once saying on here pick a design then wait a year. If your still 100% sure you want that image perminantly printed onto your skin then go for it.

As for the working class comment

If you keep feeding it, the thread will get closed. Just like all the other body modification threads. Ignore the ignorant, for the greater good.

To be fair, you don't necessary know exactly what you'd like as a tattoo - I think it's perfectly fine to say that you simply want a tattoo. Often you can have an idea in mind - asking for suggestions may raise a design that you think is perfect, or could be perfect.

Sure that fine and I'm glad you are happy with them but there is a certain "stigma" associated with a tattoo!

If you post to GD you are bound to get some negative feedback, its not "ignorance" it's just opinion, if you don't want this feedback then don't post to GD.

Cheers

There is a stigma associated with Tattoos. I have 10 and you do get people looking at you in a funny way! I don't care. If you like to have a tattoo just remember it is for life and pick a design you will be happy with, forever! :D

Perhaps we should just get back to the point of the thread and suggest designs for him before it gets closed?

It would be good if the op could post some ideas up though!

I'm not bothered about the feedback, I very much agree that you need to take the good with the bad. But when people come into tattoo/piercing thread with sweeping, derisory, statements, it amounts to trolling.

Also, I could argue that, 'A tattoo will condemn you to a working class life' is indeed ignorance.

And to the OP - I agree with all the others who have said that if you need to ask what to get, then you're not ready to get one - the choice and "want" should be yours and no-one elses

Seriously, a tattoo stops you ever rising above working class.

LOL. Very funny but sadly untrue.
Victorian aristocrats were VERY into being tattoed, some interesting piercings as well.

In the line of thought....you gonna have your tattoo forever....well you ain't, coz you ain't gonna live forever. Life is short, either we realize it or not. So better enjoy it the best way possible. In this case - getting a tattoo. And about how is your tattoo gonna look when you are 50, hmm i wonder what is going to look worse, you skin or your tattoo. Sorry if sounds gross.....
Vanity...my favourite sin :D
