As i ststed earlier, i have 10 tattoos now. Only 2 that i am not 100% happy with though. I may get them removed. Laser is the only real way to get them removed.

Just go for something that means something to you.

I've always wondered...If you get laser surgeory to remove your tattoo, does it leave any scars?

As for the working class comment. I disagree, and as said, plenty of people who are "well off" will have tattoo's, including rich and famous people. Although I do think having visable tattoos might lower your chances of getting certain jobs, some people judge by appearance.

I've also been thinking about getting a tattoo for the last month or so, but wouldn't dive straight in and get anything, your stuck with it for life. If I got anything it would be something reasonably small in size. Nothing over the top.
I was actually thinking about getting the meaning of my name written in latin up the inside of my left arm, wouldn't be big though, only small. Perhaps a little chinese writting, I'm not sure yet.

It needs to look stylish, but not gay. A bit sophisticated, but not pretentious. And manly, but not butch.

I'm curious now as to what constitutes a "gay" tattoo? And what would make a tattoo "manly, but not butch."

If I had one on my forearm and went for a job interview I would try and hide it. Just asked my employer who said "tattoo's are generally for scrubbers" He's an IT manager on a fairly decent paypacket.

But if you like the look of a tattoo, then why not. Id get one on my upper back or somewhere it can be seen with no top on but can be covered by a shirt or whatever

lol i love the whole working class argument.

Its completely true, you can earn good money and enjoy life covered in tatoos but you are still gutter trash. The rich little middle class kids that get tatoos are just rebeling against the silver spoon they have had shoved in their mouth.

Half those "tribal" ones are so cliche and have been for the last 10 years whatever you do dont get that.

I dunno i feel that if you come on a forum and ask which one should i get, i really dont think you have thought about it and wouldnt bother.

Having a huge visable tattoo instantly stereotypes you as either,
1) Ex con.
2) oil rig worker
3) manual labourer left school at 16 etc.

Im sorry but this is the way it is in the real world, u may find exceptions but i wouldnt listen to a few liberal minded people on here.

I think the idea of tattoos is changing these days though. I bet there are loads of high-profile city workers who have got some kind of tattoo hidden under their pressed designer shirts.

Im sure there will be but i thought the idea of a tattoo was that it looks nice, so why hide it? then we get back to the working class argument again

Firstly if you want a tat/piercing get one done, don't care about what anyone else thinks about you – if you like it get it done. People do judge on appearances sadly, so you have to expect that people will discriminate against you. I spoke to my dad about this recently (he’s a senior partner in a large firm of chartered accountants), he said that if there with two candidates who had nothing to differentiate between them, he would offer the job to the one without the tattoos/piercing. **** them to be honest, you probably don’t want to work in that sort of job anyhow. I know I don’t. It’s the same old school – chum attitude that still exists in these types of jobs. I think this attitude will change in future though with the older generation dieing out :).

As for design, you really need to think about this yourself and think “Man I would love that on my arm”, not have someone else tell you what they think looks good :).

The most heavily inked people I know sport almost full bodysuits of ink under their obscenely expensive suits.

That's what I was thinking, my dad was in the RAF and is now a truck driver, he has a tattoo on both of his forearms. Which would back up the working class argument. THOUGH each day I see people who you couldn't describe as working class or rig workers etc who have tattoos, they aren't just for the working class nowadays.

It’s a real shame that narrow minded people like yourself can’t keep idiotic intolerant opinions like that to themselves, classing/calling someone gutter trash due to the fact that they have a tattoo is hardly demonstrating what a respectable example of the community you are.

Again, care to back this up with more information? Maybe you have just been rather unlucky with the people you have had to surround yourself with but throughout life I’ve worked/dealt with many different people from numerous types of different backgrounds and never meet anyone with these narrow minded opinions.

To some extent I agree with what people like Johnny Girth are saying.

However wealthy or sophisticated you are, unfortunately most tattoos exude ignorance. The only exceptions I can honestly say I admire are genuine artists who choose to decorate their skin. Don't get me wrong there are some beautiful tats out there, but 95% of them do not add any aesthetic to the human body whatsoever.

I'd like to think I'm not narrow minded and try to keep a fair view on things. After all, I have many friends and a sister and a girlfriend! who have tats. However, there is a big irony in that there are many people who have the same boring tattoos who accuse me of being ignorant when I challenge their decision to have gotten one in the first place, and hey, I'm not the one who chose to express my individuality by getting ink injected under my skin. To me, if thats the only way you can truly attempt to identify yourself from others, then congratulations, you have just become a mindless serf.

Now, before I get flamed, I also want to say that; the above does not apply to the minority who have a competely new idea and design for their own bespoke tattoo and who are prepared to go to exhuasted lengths to travel, or wait to get inked by a tattooist who they get to know personally.

The brutal truth is that most tattoos out there that are on show do look bad, if not awful, and don't say much about the person.

I seen a guy once, who had been in the army for several years. He had a full vietnam war scene tattood(sp?) onto his back. It was like 4 peices of paper painted onto his back, with a different scene on each one, all overlapping etc, if you know what I mean. Sorry, not sure how to descripe it.
Anyway, it looked brilliant, the artwork was simply great, it's the best tattoo I've ever seen. The artist that done it must be amazing at what he does.

Must have set him back a couple of grand though :p
