Contract from a p20 pro expires tomorrow.

My uses of a phone is... making calls, using whatsapp and wanting a point and shoot camera. Android ofc.

I am also around water a lot so needs to be IP rated.

Looking at whats coming, it seems the best options are going to be to wait for the oneplus8 or the new sony xperia 1 ii.

Any other contenders?

Another that agrees with the above. I changed to a sim only deal and bought a phone outright. (Nokia 7 plus).

Had it about a year and a half now, does all the things I need it too, and it's great not being locked into a contract.

The phone itself is showing some issues (charging port) and I'm looking at a replacement, but the idea of locking my phone to a contract again is just something a don't want to entertain. If the phone does all that you need it to, then just keep it.

In agreement with the others. I’m still rocking my 2XL mainly because nothing really seemed to appeal, or moved the game on, or was too expensive.

Previously to that I would swap phones every 12 to 18 months but it really is pointless nowadays.

My galaxy s7 motherboard bit the dust yesterday. I'm only looking at replacements because I have to, still dont get that nice feeling when shopping for new tech. Nothing is innovative anymore.

i've been doing the above for years. i pau £8 a month for my sim and have done so for nearly 3 years. before that i was £10 a month for going on a decade.

i've only ever had 1 phone on a contract and that was a good 15 years ago.

i've never understood why so many are happy to blow £20-£60 a month on something which arguably doesn't do anything much better than your current model.

it's great for me though as i have been picking up phones which work amazingly well second hand for cheap. thanks to all the upgrades people normally do.

my wife is only allowed £150 to spend on an upgrade as she has smashed several phones and had 1 stolen. my budget is £300 because i've only ever had to do 1 insurance claim in 15 years.

i'm rocking a phone with a 4K screen currently. and other specs which are really good and i've had it for about a year or more now.

4k screen? Arguably one of the most useless phone specs I can think of.

Another one of Sonys 'grand' ideas.

Get off the upgraditis bandwagon. Does your phone do everything you need it to? If yes, then don't buy a new one.

I'm not going to 'upgrade' my Pixel 3XL. It'll just get replaced when it no longer does what I need it to do.

Really missing smaller screen phones, below 5.5". And lighter weight, below 140g.
I keep complaining about progress taking step in wrong direction. When they learned to make bezelless screens, should've reduced phone size and kept screen around 5", instead they grew screen to include space for bezels and now standard screen is 6-6.5".

Still have my S4 mini as backup, and all new phones are just way too massive in comparison

The thing is,the new 6.5" screen phones are no bigger overall than 5.5" screen phones from a couple of years ago give or take a few mm.
I don't see how that can be negative in any way

I think the main issue is, a lot of us back then didn't want the 5.5" versions due to size. We stuck to the 4.7" or equivelant. I had a standard sized S7 and found myself narrowed down to either a galaxy A40 or a Pixel 3a for my budget as a replacement due to the dimensions of phones nowadays. 144 -150mm length seems okay, as this is fairly similar to the s7 I was used to. I wanted a Galaxy A51 but it's the same size as my partner's s9 plus, which does my head in when I try to use it or fit it in a pocket.

In my opinion once you've had a bigger screen you'd never want to go back to a smaller one....but there has to be a limit. Some phones have 7" screens, the same size as my 1st tablet !!!.... although again that was much bigger overall because of the wide bezels
6.5" has to be the practical limit for phones
