Hi all.

My old car has finally given up the ghost so I need to get rid of it. The car is a 95 Corsa 1.4 3dr. I don't know what's wrong with it as I know very little about cars! It is hard to get it to turn over on the best of days, and quite often I have to bump start it. If I do get it started then it's usually fine for the rest of the day, it's just getting it started in the first place. When it is running it makes a weird ticking noise and it's not as powerful as it used to be. All in all, it's pretty knackered. On top of that I don't have the log book for it anymore.

Is there any chance I could get some money for this, selling it for parts or as a non-runner etc, or would it be better off just taking it to the scrap yard?!

Thanks!

difficult to start suggests battery
ticking noise and underpowered sugestion bottem end bearings (it could be noisy tappets but you wont lose much power)
is there enough oil in it?
how often do you change the oil?
does it burn oil?

You're going to ditch the car because it needs a new battery? As for the ticking, have you checked the oil recently? The ticking sound could also be a leaky exhaust manifold which could also explain the loss of power.

It's already been replaced hence why I want to get rid of it. That's not the only problem though, there's loads of niggly things as well (can't open windows, roof leaks, several electrical bits have loose connections, dents in bodywork etc).

It's been the family car for last 2 years so it's taken a battering, it's not all me!

Banger racing would be fun but wouldn't be able to get up enough speed!

I'd just phone a scrapy and see how much they'll offer you, if you've replaced it already chances are you don't want it sitting on your drive while you faff about trying to repair it to sell or strip it for parts considering it'll be worth so little anyway.

You could stick it on Ebay as a non-runner for spares/repairs.

Or, the local FreeAds.

The other question of course, is where are you in the country? Someone nearby might be interested or know someone who is interested (although, of course, you can't use the forum for selling a vehicle, as it's against the rules)

I'd stick it on ebay...just describe it honestly and someone will take it off you. However, you really need to sort out the log book situation, you can get a form from a main Post Office to apply for a new one.

Yea but that costs money doesn't it? Think that was the reason we didn't bother getting a new one.

Can you sell it on ebay or wherver without one or is that illegal?

It's £25, but a lot of people are wary about buying cars without V5s, and by failing to inform DVLA of a change in registered keeper by sending off the log book they can fine you (£60 I think)

The V62 form is available online

Could also try the motor vehicle section of the local college?

I know the one here is always open to cheap cars for the students to work on.
