what to do, with options

6950vs470.jpg

here it is apples for apples ( same speed CPU ) Everything set to MAX on 1920x1200 rez.

470 SLI @ 800-1800
vs
OCUK 6950 Xfire @ 840-5300

as you can clearly they are very lvl. and xfire gets taken to town by some 20% in min FPS. ( yes the xifre had no voltage tweek, so higher OC is possible, but so is the 470.. ):D

"Clearly" ?

Cpu's are different it seems? (The 470 setup actually looks to have a slower CPU?.. any idea on the exact CPU setup please for each one? The 470 looks to be using i5, whilst the 6950 looks to be using i7 ? Really needs to be the same series chip at least for a fair comparison).

The other thing is that both are on "Extreme". We all know that Fermi has 'better' tessellation performance. There is not a chance that any decent game is going to be using that level of tessellation in the near future. (at LEAST the next couple of years).

It's not very good evidence IMO. (I haven't looked for any reviews, so i can only go on what you show me at present). I'm not convinced twin 470 being quicker than twin 6950. (not that I have to be convinced! lol ;-)

By looking at those results and even though the 470's are using a slower CPU its still beating the 6950's. 470's are also using x8/x8 SLI with the i5 and the 6950's and i7 is using x16/x16 crossfire.

The 470's are cheaper than the 6950's so if I was choosing between the two I would get the 470's.

But I wouldn't justify buying a card over just a benchmark though.

For a start the 470's have a big overclock on, and how does heaven performance have anything to do with actual game performance. CPU speed has hardly no impact in heaven results.

Is an i5 slower at gaming? I thought it was the gamer's choice and (going from memory) faster in some situations? (If I'm wrong I'm wrong, need help on that point! :-) )

The use of 'extreme' as mentioned is obviously not very good comparison. The tessellation in the cayman will be maxed before the fermi's, possibly explaining the lower minimum's. As said not straight forward, and possibly misleading.

What is true is that the 470's are a good price :-)

The i7 and i5 are both at 4Ghz, there will be no difference in gaming between them unless you got games utilizing more than four cores.
