What to expect....

Hi

I'm thinking of getting a new car (Suzuki Swift) and want to part-exchange my VW Lupo. I'm taking my car to the dealers tomorrow and to test drive the Swift, but I'm not sure how much to expect for my Lupo..

Please give me a rough idea what it'll be worth - I got it brand new in Feb '04 (53 plate) for around £8k, E 1.4 manual, metallic/pearl paint (Grey Anthracite), done around 10,600 miles, got quite a bad scratch on the front bumper and two little dents on the roof (no idea how that happened...) it's all standard, no central lock etc except for a cd player.

So, how much do you reckon my car is worth?

I really do regret getting the Lupo for 8k... I have no electric windows either!!
Instead of getting metallic paint I should've got central lock, but my dad said its pointless as its only a 3dr and I hardly have any passengers in my car.

3/4k sounds about right, my dad thought it'd be worth about 2k

Just came back from the dealers, they quoted me £3700 for my Lupo..
The Swift I want is the 1.5 glx automatic - OTR price £9824. The only other options I want is metallic paint and spoiler and he said he can offer me:

£10,424 OTR inc metallic paint, spoiler, oh and some free mats... thats £3800 given for my Lupo meaning I pay £6624 in total. I know he can offer much better, but how do I go about it? :p And I'm so clueless with cars, how much discount is considered as good? I was thinking of trying to make him knock it down to £6400....

I don't want to get a used car btw, not because I'm too good for used cars but more the fact that I don't want the hassle of having no warrenty or all the paperwork/MOT etc.. I wanted to get the Mini before I noticed the Swift, but even a used Mini One is quite expensive.. Besides, the Swift comes with a lot more as standard compared to the Mini One: swift_equip

Has to be a automatic because my sister struggles with a manual..
So lets say that I buy the Swift, how badly will it depreciate? In 3 years time will it be worth £3k or not even that?

I guess the main reason why I don't want a used car is because I don't know how to look for a good one.. I don't know what I need to look out for and also I find it hard to trust people unless I know the person who I'm buying the car from.. and those 'approved used cars' which you buy from the dealers are not *much* cheaper than a new one.. I duno

I like the Astra, size is ok I suppose but they're quite expensive aren't they?

Yeah I do prefer a Swift rather than a bog-standard Mini One actually :p It's the looks that counts as well.. I'd have to get alloys, body coloured wing mirrors, white side indicators etc... Yeah, fair enough its no supercar.. but these little things count and thats how I like it :p

As to the drive/handling wise... I haven't driven the Mini before, although i'm sure its better than the Swift.. I've driven the Swift and it handles much better than my Lupo though. I guess the handling wouldn't really matter to me *that* much...

Ok... my dad, brother and bf (plus you guys) all disagree on the Swift so i've decided not to get it anymore lol

So.. my budget for a new car (yes... has to be new pls..!) is £13k, so what car do you lot suggest? I want something quite reliable as i'll be keeping it for at least 5 years, it must be auto, has air con, not too slow (must be same or lil faster than my Lupo) and not too big.

I was looking at the Corolla T3 1.6 auto for just under £13k.. but my friend said the Corolla is getting kinda old and that they might bring out a new one soon? Corolla seems to be the best option at the moment.. What do you guys think??

Aygo? Not a big fan of the looks and they're too slow :p

Why is everyone here so against buying new cars... Yeah fair enough about the depreciation etc... but surely for a car that i'm gonna keep for a long long time, it's not *that* bad buying it new is it? I probably wont be selling this new car that I buy anyway, as I'll probably pass it onto my sister or mum.

So... what do you guys think of the Corolla? or any other suggestions as to what other cars I can look at? (no more comments about me getting a 'new' car *please*!! yes, silly, I know.....)

How much is a VW Golf?
Too much, even for a low model.

Mini Cooper? I've had a look, but with all the equip I want it totals up to £14/5k. Fabia VRS - it doesn't come in automatic and my bf has it already lol
Mazda 3 - expensive for the one auto model that they do.

I find Fiestas 'plain'.. 'normal'.. and 'boring' lol. and VW fox is slow...

I just did a multi-paragraph post on how to buy the best car of this type for for your budget, did you not see it?

Getting a £17,000 list price car brand new for £13k is the most sensible thing you can do in your situation, save from get this ridiculous 'OMG MUST BE NEW' notion out of your head anyway.
lol yeah I saw it, but the focus is a bit big isn't it......... It's more like something my dad would drive tho.........

And I don't really like the looks of the new punto :p
I just had a look at the Mini website and they put their prices up
I'm liking the Corolla now, so I guess i'll go visit my local Toyota dealers and see if they have any used cars available...
