Hey,

I'm after a new TV. Budget is about £800 pounds. From what I've read I'd be better off trying to get a plasma TV over an LCD? I must admit when looking at LCD tv's in shops they don't always look that clear.

I've used a couple of Panasonic Plasma screens (not TV ones) through work and they look amazing. Had Aliens vs Predator on a 42" which looked amazing. Are these any good for TV and worth stretching the budget for?

Where would your money go? Any recommendations on what to look for?

Many thanks.

Jon

Plasma V LCD is a very personal preference. If you prefer plasma, then its certainly worth looking at stretching the budget.

I've got a Panasonic TH42PX60, available for around 1k including vat, very good screens, they are very good at getting the most out of current SD DVD's and broadcast TV, while offering enough resolution to get a good performance from HD technology over the next few years.

Hey,

Thanks for your post. The panasonic units do look really nice. Searching for your model has lead me to a few interesting websites.

Thanks :).

Your welcome, I've only had the set for a week or two now, and the more I watch it, the more impressed I am with the quality. It really is very good :)

The TH42PX60 can be had for under 900 quid now, I can't beleive how cheap they are now, one of those kills any lcd of that size for picture quality. The pannys are bullet proof too, no worries re image retention/burn there.

Just purchased the Panasonic TH42PX60PED. Cost £952 pounds with a stand. Could have got one with a wall bracket instead for £883 but we don't have any wall space suitable.

Hopefully it will arrive next week. I'll let you know my thoughts. :).

Cheers for the help.

just got a Panasonic TH42PX60 for my F-in-Law the other week, it's a bit of a bargain at sub £1K.
very nice pic, but tbh I haven't been back to look at it properly since setting it up.
('tis a good excuse to watch the Band of Brothers again....)

you might get better value from an LCD and they use less power (Toshibas are nice) but def don't drop lower than 42". You get used to the screen size really quickly.

heh, I left his old 28" alongside it as a comparision, it's a 1/4 of the size!

unfortunatley it'll be a while before I can justify getting one :(
