As already stated they are LED's but what is really going on is overexposure when taking the photographs. The camera has its flash turned off so a longer exposure is needed to capture enough light to get a "balanced" image. As there is so much dark area this usually results in any light source (led's in this case) looking a lot brighter then they will in reality and with a tell tale halo or glow around them. When i take photos of my pc i adjust my led's (slowing my fans dims the leds) so they dont look as bright in photos.
