What would I need to max Metro at 2560x1440?

That's one review and not representative of the overall picture, there is a spreadsheet on the 6900 thread which clearly shows this not to be the case. Metro does use Physx although not in the bench I posted.

Metro 2033 is an absolute system killer...and TBH it really isnt that good a game.

I have two KFA2 GTX 480 'Anarchy' GFX cards in SLI and i'm gaming at 1900 x 1200 and with everything maxed out it is just playable during frantic sections of the game.

I suppose the argument is that it isnt really worth spending hundreds and hundreds on top end hardware to be able to max out one game at mega high resolutions...as what you will spend your money on is mega overkill for most other existing and upcoming games.

If you really have to spend cash on new hardware, consider getting just one GTX 580 / 570 and rolling back on some on the unnecessary settings that make virtually no visual difference but have a severe impact on performance (DOF, AA etc.) A

Also if your budget allows you should look into investing in other components to boost system performance...more/faster ram or an SSD. A single GTX 570 / 580 will see you happily gaming for a long while to come (if you ignore maxing out Metro)

Metro is unplayable at 1920x1200.

For me, a pair of overclocked GTX580's can *Just About* hit playable frame rates @ 1680x1050 with 4x AA.

Metro 2033 looks the business and even though it's a corrior shooter is the pinnacle of pc IQ.
570 in SLI will do u fine mate. OC them to about 900mhz and u got a 580.
My 470 @ 850mhz in SLI cut through that badly coded game. Occasionally it drops to 15-20fps but that's ^^^so rare u won't notice it.

Okay, looks like I'm getting 6970 CF then.

Anyone think I can run this on a 850w PSU?

Looks like I should be able too, right?

I have a PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750w and an i7 980x and 12GB of RAM and 1/2 a dozen SSD's - and I'm going to try HD6970CF (they are sat here under my desk right now) on an LG 30" @ 2560 x 1600 under W7_X64. I may need to go into the 850-950w range, but I don't think so.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I can't find a way of changing individual graphics settings (e.g. turn DOF off but leave tessellation on etc). Is this possible or is it just a case of choosing DX10 / DX11 ?

Trubyd44 has an insane mega-dollar $$$$$ rig consisting of Dual Intel® Xeon® X5680's, Quad GTX 480 SLI etc etc and is still not 100% happy with performance of Metro 2033 maxed out @ 2560x1600 :D
In one of his videos his did some testing comparing a pure Quad-Sli inc PhysX against a three-way sli and using the fourth GTX 480 just for PhysX and got better average framerate I think? . . . can't remember the full details but its in one his videos somewhere! :)

He needs to keep his air conditioning on to cool the room, that's a massive amount of heat.
