Omega Elite or 406 Executive.

Really don't get a Mondeo auto though (mk1/2). I am being serious when I say I have never heard of A SINGLE ONE that hasn't had gearbox failure. Loads of faulty Mondeos are sold on ebay with that exact problem as it usually costs more than the value of the car to fix.

The only reason that mileage is so low is because the previous owners have been to scared to drive it for fear of the gearbox ripping. I say ripping as they are made of rice paper.
Go & see it & set it alight for me, K Thanks Bye :D
I'd rather have an Older high mileage Auto Audi than that pile of crap.

With respect it isnt a pile of crap, it's an excellent car blighted by a crap gearbox. Infact the box isnt even that bad, it just doesnt last 5 minutes.

What's wrong with Automatic Mondeo's.?

My dad's had one for the last 6/7 years and has almost covered 70,000 odd miles - Only slight issue he had was.... he had to have the gearbox oil changed.

Funny thing is - I went to a Ford specialist and they sold me a Gearbox Oil Filter.... but when the Garage changed the oil - They couldn't find a filter in the Gearbox....

2k-2.5k buys you early MK3's nowadays, which are fairly rock solid (well apart from the subrame bushes.

The MK2 unless its a st24/200/Ghia x isnt worth bothering with now.

 Isn't even that bad it just doesn't last 5 minutes
Would you care to reword that.

Auto Mondeos costing anything near that money are crap in my book.

No.

It's a decent enough autobox - ie, smooth changes, etc etc. It's just very unreliable.

In much the same way that the K Series is a good engine but very unreliable ;)

How is it decent if it is unreliable & likely to fail :p
Why bring anything else into it ? You consider one of the most notoriously crap auto boxes decent even though it is prone to failure
At least this gives me a benchmark for your future judgements.

Your getting caught up in symantics here. He is saying that the way the box works WHEN its working is quite nice. Its just not likely to last long!

So, its can be a decent box, right up to when it dies :p

For Example, (be prepared - car stereotype coming!!) an Alfa might be a great car to drive, but fail ten million times in a year
