You been slowly recovering from a chest infection for the past 3 weeks.

During which time you somehow managed to attend an interview and as lady luck was with you got the job..(last weds)

No start date was finalised as interview saw the state you were in. You called in friday to say you wouldnt be making it today however if you had made a recover over weekend you would but you didnt.

5 days after landing the job (today) all you have is just a terrible cough which in any office environment you would be frowned at also a slight wheeze to go with it..

As your at home, your paranoid of losing the job, and trying to do everything to recover but that cough is hard to fight...

What would you do?

Pls help

Thanks in advance..

Speak to the management of new job and explain that you are coming out of a pretty hefty chset infection and say you do not want to disrupt the working environment, yet want to start work as soon as you can.

See what they say and sort something out with them.

You are not at work because of a "chesty cough" ... slap!!!

Get to work ... its better they send you home, rather than you not attend. You can always get some cough medicine to assist a little.

phone them explain in advance and see what they say.

the majority of managers wouldnt want someone who could infect the rest of their staff in anyway, it will also give you a feel for how reasonable they are...but do it in advance.

i would call and ask them what they want.
i assume you have to go though some induction, ask them if they can mail them to you so you can start reading that stuff at home. there might be other things you can do as well, e.g. H&S stuff

i tried so many....when i cough i bring up phelgm, great way to start a new job..

Something that worked for me when I was like that, very last thing at night, get some really hot water and dissolve some salt in it, and gargle with it. It has to be as hot as you can stand, and as salty as you can stand it. Don't swallow it, just gargle. Then go to bed. Don't drink anything, rinse your mouth, brush your teeth etc after gargling though.

I had a cough like that a few months ago, and tried all the cough medicines, then the pharmacist suggested the hot salty water, did the trick.

I would recommend you gargle some Listerine (the greeny blue one) every couple of hours. Will keep any nasties at bay and should clear your cough much quicker. It stings like crap until you use it regularly, but I promise you it does the job.

i called up spoke to my future manager and told her that i am getting better but having trouble fighting this terrible cough and Im getting myself into a pickle about it, she told me not to worry and to take my time and to start as soon as I am ready...Man I am so relieved, the nasty thoughts I was getting raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar

So thanks for your help and advice...

I will try the salt advice tonight and failing that after a few days will have a go with the listerine...

Thanks peeps..
