Been tentatively looking around for various new canon bodies.

I've used a 350D, 10D, 20D and 30D in the past and loved the latter 2.

I also love the 5D (have used a friends) but with asaving for a deposit on a house i can't really afford something as expensive as that.

Presently considering either a 40D or possibly an original 1D.

Leaning more towards the 40D since it's a tad newer but wondered if any of you had any opinions on the choice i have available to me! :)

Thanks in advance! :D

40D over the 1D as you said the t4echnology is better and you will probably find the high iso on the 1D wont mach equiv ISO on the 40D i.e 3200

The 30D is still a good body with low milage ones going for around £300 so if price is an issue then it's still an option.

As above. The original 1D uses a CCD sensor rather than CMOS so is noisy, low res (3.3Mp) and power hungry.

Now 40D v 1DMkII is a different matter entirely but as a result you're unlikely to find a MkII for 40D money.

Thanks guys - that's pretty much what i suspected. :D

@ 33L: Yeah, i'd considered the 30D again - loved it.

Suppose i'd quite like the larger screen and added resolution of the 40D though so that will no doubt win out!

@ rpstewart: I wish one of the alternatives was a MkII - that would be amazing!!!

Cheers for the wise words! :)

Considering the price of the 40D at the moment I don't think you can really go wrong with this model. With cashback its less than £500 now and a lot of camera for the money.
A much better camera than the 30D too (I think anyway) Mine seemed to underexpose on nearly every shot and the LCD wasn't great.

Great - more positive comments for the 40D.

Looks like this will be the next body.

Excellent!

Thanks again to everyone for your help. :)

If you're able to wait until the 5DII starts shipping, then the prices *may* come down on the 5D a bit more, if you'd like one over some of the others there ...

You;re in the same boat as me there mate, but I'm looking at the 450D with a wide angle lense as I'd be mainly using it for landscape photograpy. Absolutely no relativity to your topic but thought I'd mention it :p
