I'm going to build a new computer for a friend using a mixture of new and old parts however, we need a new motherboard + CPU. We are pretty much set on a new Haswell refresh CPU but am really unsure what motherboard to get. Normally I get a Gigabyte or Asus but I see that MSI have some attractive offerings now to!
Would like to overclock the CPU but wont be anything major as the cooler will only be similar to a 212 evo. Not that interested in things like crossfire but would be nice to have it. Not sure if hes getting a i5/i7 yet. If Broadwell is supported on this socket, my friend is also likely to plonk one in even if it's not much of a improvement.
Rest of the spec:
8GB 1600MHz RAM
MSI 280X GPU
2x 1TB HDD
120GB SSD
PCI or PCIE Sound card (got both, but rather use onboard audio if it's equal or similar)
PCIE WiFi adapter
OCZ 650W PSU
Main uses of the computer is all the usual stuff like office, web browsing then stuff like gaming, virtual machines, web design etc
I was wondering though, I haven't used a Intel since Ivy Bridge and with the Haswells, can a cheapish board (like £80) perform mild overclocks?
Budget is about £110 for the motherboard though lower is better. He's happy to spend a tad more if it's worth it. Not buying quite yet, but would like to get a idea of what sort of models are worth it
Thanks!
