What's currently good for bangernomics?

I will 3rd or 4th or whatever it's up to now the W124 :) ...there is a reason why the Taliban like these when they aren't using their Toyota Hilux and Landcruisers. The W124 Merc ...holding the Western Allies at bay since ...2001. I'm not sure they come factory fit with 50 calibre machine guns but you can always improvise if you like.

Its all about the mounting for a machine gun, solid base = good gun.

Option number 134543/8b machine gun mount in green black.

I'm wishing I had bought one when I was looking, 1500 would have bought a lovely one and the only reason I didn't was fuel economy. But now I'm only doing about 20 miles a week, I'm seriously considering swapping!

I dont want to be an i told you so but...

I even found you that nice looking one on e bay :)

Cheers for the reply, for the same price I could get this but this is the facelift does that mean the quality is lost?

That later shape are not 1/10th the cars the W124's are for build quality.

Its a personal choice thing really you can have more modern and less reliable or bomb proof.

They do still drive very well W124's and that estate you picked will be a bit breathless with that engine.

If you can live with the low mpg Vauxhall Omega 2.2? Most tend to be autos, I picked up one with 70k for a little over £800.

Don't get a Mondeo with an auto box, they are not very reliable at all. The W124 Mercs are certainly well built, but I doubt it will meet your "not too juicy" requirements, even the diesels are quite thirsty.

Surely the rule with bangernomics is just to keep it until it completely dies? Why buy into another cheap car with potential problems if the scenic is working fine?
I'm pretty sure it is about to die now. The gearbox has done well over 35K (actually, nearer 38K ) since it started playing up and it doesn't like sitting in traffic any more, which says to me it might let us down. I don't want to cloud 5 years of problem-free motoring :D

I've had a 10 owner 20 year old merc 190E for 4 years. cost 500 quid. Most reliable car I've owned! No rust - only thing it's needed in that time was new tyres!
