What's more important to you?

Seriously considering getting an old mk1 golf gti or some kind of early beetle (most likely a 1200) and keeping it forever.

In the mean time I get a new car every 6 months but that's via work so not really buying them so cheating somewhat.

I'd change the Manta for a Vauxhall Sportshatch but finding one is not easy. I'd also change it for an AE86 (lots more money) or possibly an S14a 200SX. Not really interested in many things other than that really so for now the Manta stays.

I tend to find i have my cars for ~1year then chop it in for something different, i've got the luxury of a company car suiting to my daily needs so there is no criteria to adhere to. This unfortunatly lends its self to buying less conventional cars and I've found as the years go on the insurance comes down opening the door for more fruity cars and my magpie "shiny shiny" desires come out :D

It's difficult to say, as I've only owned 3 cars, 2 of which I have atm.
I had the Leon for 2 years. Probably should have kept it for longer, but I had a suspicion it was on the verge of throwing up yet another big bill..

I'd love an F10 535i - it is my favourite real world car.
Going to drive one tomorrow, should be fun :D
Unfortunately the GT we were supposed to be given for the journey to BMW Belux was involved in an accident today

I'd love to compare the 535i to a 550i but they're almost impossible to get a hold of over here..

I have a terrible desire to change cars quicker than I really should. Longest I have kept a car was 2 years and I owned that Fabia VRS from new.

The cars I have bought after that have usually developed a fault that led to me changing them (2 BMW's, a Civic and an XType)

On reflection I should have kept the last BMW I owned and got the "niggle" repaired.

I now have another Xtype but this time an estate (fits dog in nicely) However, it has let me down twice so I'm itching to change. That would keep to me changing every two years.

What Im interested in is if people change their cars due to reliability issues or high mileage and what is classed as a high mileage nowadays?

I change them when I need to, I went out looking at new cars about 18 months ago when I got a new job, what stopped me changing was the fact that other than being a bit newer, I wasnt really getting anything for my money.

Work have just given me a new Astra to drive around in, What does it offer over my 14 year old festa?
The astra is slower despite having a bigger engine, its a bit better on fuel, the steering wheel seems to be made out of duplo bricks and not out of the same soft touch stuff as the festa, and its a lot noiser as well.
Obviously its got no rust and things like that, but on a practical level (and this applies to all cars in my respect not just vauxhalls) I dont see what I would gain buying a new car just for the sake of it for my private use.
The wife on the other hand, she wants a new car for her, so thats why I am putting myself through the torture of car hunting at the moment, I ******* hate it.

I'm not convinced I've owned enough cars or for long enough to have established a pattern but I don't think I've got any set criteria beyond being happy enough with the car at the time and it still being in a functional condition - once it's got to the point where a bill is likely to be somewhere near what the car is worth then I'll chuck it. This could be so far because I've only ever had cars worth <£1,000 - if/when that changes then I may have to re-evaluate how often I change cars.

I've never bought remotely new in my life and I doubt I ever will until I'm an old man as then maintence may physically kill me and depreciation wouldn't bug me as much. :p

I have a penchant for 80's / 90's styling. Plus its better the devil you know than the devil you don't as they say.

I try to buy a new one every year, but as it is now I've bought the Mitsubishi exactly 364 days after the Volvo ( a year minus a day :p) .

Ideally I'd want to swap cars every 6 months but I usually cba.
