Me and my dead old dad are planning on getting a HDTV LCD TV (preferably 26"-27") for each of our bedrooms and are looking for a TV with top-notch picture quality, picture-in-picture, DVI, and all the rest of the gubbins that are no standard.

Cheaper the better, but without sacrificng quality!

Suggestions welcome, we want to order this weekend. :)

Rich.

I don't understand why so many people on here are being so stupid. Yes, £570 may seem like an "incredible" deal but it doesn't include any warranty. If your TV breaks one day after the year's warranty, Samsung will laugh at you.

I paid an extra £30 and got 3 years extra warranty (4 total) on my Samsung 26""

That's why it's always best to buy from John Lewis using a price match. Internet prices with a 5-year warranty. You can't lose! :D

For a 26" screen something like the Samsung would be ideal. I don't think you'll get it for under £500 though.

Here you go:

Interesting bit:

" For up to six years after purchase (five years from discovery in Scotland) purchasers can demand damages (which a court would equate to the cost of a repair or replacement). "

In other words, 12 month guarantees should be ignored. I mean, lets face it, if you just spent £2k on a large electrical item, and it completely imploded after 13 months, would you just think "hell with it, ill buy another" ?? I know i wouldnt.
Obviously extended warranties have their benefits, but only if they are reasonably priced.

Ok sod it, title can be changed to "Which is the best 26" LCD HDTV. Period. Budget is now a non-issue as i'll be contributing towards the cost. :)

The PANASONIC TX26LXD60 looks sweet as... seriously considerting it. I take it that it would be perfect for potention HD console gaming etc too?

Any other suggestions?

Sony Bravia KDL-26S2010. I got it for around 620

The place where I bought it from told me to get this over the samsung as its better?

I got the Sony as above, definitely has better freeview quality over Samsung. I was going to get the Panny but I needed a VGA in which the Panny hasnt got, but otherwise looks really sweet! The guy in the store I bought it from pushed the Samsung to me too, I read somewhere there there is more of a profit margin on them which is why they are pushed more.

You sound like you wear a red shirt and are selling me a laptop warranty.

Im pretty sure my TV wont break, and if it does outside of 12 months i'll buy a new one. If you think spending this much on a TV is Absolutly crazy enough to need an extended warranty that you have to call people stupid, maybe you should buy something cheaper. If anything it will probably break from something outside of warranty.

I got one of these a few weeks ago:

Excellent picture and sound, connectivity is better than anything else that size (2xHDMI, VGA and component)

£620 delivered

That looks very nice indeed but Trusted reviews say response rate may be a little off?

Here's what they say:

By now you might well be wondering why our final picture mark for this JVC only reads 8. The answer lies in two distinct picture flaws. First, fast horizontal motion on the TV tends to suffer with some quite overt smearing, suggesting either that JVC’s DynaPix system does, after all, still generate some digital noise side effects, or that the screen’s LCD response time isn’t the greatest.

Problem two is that while dark parts of the picture look suitably black on this JVC, they also look rather empty and ‘black hole’-like, lacking the sort of subtle shadow details that would make them feel more like an integral part of the picture.

A far more minor point is that colours can look a touch unnatural with dark, standard definition scenes – but this can be said of practically every other LCD TV too, so we won’t dwell on it. Especially as many LCD rivals actually suffer with it worse.

Noticed any of that?

Nope, I read lots of user reports before chosing the set and haven't found anything even remotely wrong with it so far.
