Hi

What do you think is the best online route planner?
I have in the past used Multimap and RAC.

Out of them two i found RAC to be better because it was layed out easier (use of icons), it was just easier to use (the printouts when being a passenger).

I've always found AA the best, haven't got lost yet using it. On the other hand I find RAC useless........

I like Map24. There isn't much you can't do on it. You can add stopovers...etc...

Only down side is its quite slow sometimes.

mapblast's 'line drive' has never failed me in the past. having tried AA, streetmap etc. it also gave the most accurate times for journeys too. these days i just go with Tom Tom GPS far easier and if you ever take a wrong turning it will auto adjust its directioning and you can still get from A to B as easy as pie.

Bit expensive though surely?

Not really.

Most people have a laptop these days... Google Earth is free... and GPRS isn't that expensive.

I've used my mobile to connect a laptop to the 'net before. Good old O2's free minutes ;)

What GPRS are you using? as the best I've seen over a phone is something stupid like £4 a megabyte..
The dedicated G3/GPRS Vodafone/Orange PCMIA cards are much better, but if you go over the limit it's still ridiculous money.

I have to say the oppisite. I planned out a route with AA and it completely messed up the last part which meant I had to go all the way back home (ok it wasnt that far but  anyway) and this time checked it with RAC who gave the proper directions right till the end, it was in the middle of nowhere to be fair.

I advise you to source more then one routeplan if you are going to rely on it a lot

See, this is why i don't miny paying for Mappoint (which must be due an update soon), or autoroute.

Far better than any of the online systems.
