What's the deal with the PS3 pre-ordering?

At present, many places are still taking pre-orders with a guarantee of a console on launch day. Several of the online big players are saying that as soon as they've taken pre-orders for their initial allocation, they'll withdraw the PS3 from sale on their sites.

This is for the same console that is apparently the most pre-ordered in history and is currently having global supply shortages.

What do you think is going to happen come launch? Will Sony surprise or disappoint?

They will surprise. Over a million machines for Europe alone. Japan and the US didn't even get that much.
And retailers have learned from the outcry with pre orders not being met with 360 and Wii's. So they will know there allocation.
Like always it'll be the accesories that'll be a bugger to get a hold of.

Hope so. :)

The lure of getting a console on launch day proved too much for me and I placed an order last night, on-line.

If the console's a no-show, I will probably cancel the order. I just hope they don't send the games minus the console. Wouldn't surprise me, even though it is a bundle.
