What's the issues with the 7900GT's ?

I've read a few posts on this and other forums when people are having issues with this card saying "Oh, sounds like the typical 7900GT issue".

I'm curious as i'm trying to decide between this and the X1800XT (sorry if this starts a war). I've run the 6800GT for 8 months with no issues and before that had a 9800pro with no issues so i'm not a "fan" of either card.

Price for either is only £10 difference so that's not really the issue. I'm not fussy about 3D mark scores or if one get's 3FPS more in a game then the other. All i want is high quality graphics at 1600 * 1200 (as that's the native res of my monitor) and stability :D
 
I was a bit worried at first as I'd placed the order before noticing there was a potential problem with the 7900GTs. Mine has been fine though & has overclocked very well so far. Either the X1800 or the 7900GT would be a good buy -not a lot in it tbh but the 7900GT will clock very well and will run cooler & quieter than the X1800. The only downside for the 7900GT is the slight chance that it might be a bad 'un. Equally though there have been QC problems with some of the ATI cards too recently.

Yes have heard more problems with the 7900GT & 7900GTX cards than any other card i can recall. Seriously dented any chance that i was going to buy a 7900GT.

Also at stock the X1800XT is the faster card. If you get a working 7900 series card they do overclock well but so do the X1800XT cards. The 7900 series are cooler though if thats a concern. Id suggest the X1800XT generally.
