Hello, as it says above. I would like opinions please on the max overclock i could achieve with my system. I'm a gamer and play games such as crysis, ut3 and TF2 everynow and then.

Here are my specs

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB) Currently at 3.6ghz (400x9)
GeForce 9800 GX2 1024MB GDDR3
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 DHX PC2-6400C4DHX TwinX (2x1GB)
Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2
Coolermaster Real Power 700w Modular
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)

I've overclocked the E8400 from 3ghz to 3.6ghz but my knowledge of overclocking is very basic. So i'm afraid to go any higher, especially with my memory only being 800mhz.

I currently get 17000 in 3dmark06.

Any help appreciated, chris.

Your memory should be able to do well over 900mhz. You'll have to drop your timings to 5-5-5-15 when it hits a wall at its current 4-4-4-12.

That would allow you to get to 4ghz. The motherboard won't have any problem keeping up.

Your cooler will probably be the limiting factor. Tho how much depends on your particular chip. All chips are different.

Thankyou very much..My current cooler is on its last legs and will be getting changed, by Thursday i am hoping to have a new one..

Any suggestions welcome.

Thankyou, chris.

Tuniq Tower 120 if you can find it in stock anywhere. It pretty much walks all over any other ~£30 cooler. But they're near impossible to find atm for some reason.

Failing that, a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme with a decent 120mm fan or a Noctua NH-U12P.
