whats the max resolution i can convert to on an ipod touch 4th gen, i want to convert HD mkv to ipod touch 4th gen but just wondered what max res it supported even though its retina display is 960x640

Surely there's no point making them any larger than 960x640? That would just increase the filesize and make the phone work harder to process and downscale the video, thus hurting battery life. You wouldn't gain any quality - you can't make the screen display detail which is beyond its native resolution. In fact, you'd probably lose quality, as I bet the iPhone's downscaling algorithm favours speed and low processor usage over video quality.
