Honestly, despite having one or two incidents in cars that could have ended fataly, nothing scares me more than the close presence of a common house spider. I get a very intense reaction of absolute dread and terror.

When I acknowledged my mum had terminal cancer just before Christmas.
I'm so sorry to hear that.
The most scared I've been was when my mother collapsed out of nowhere and wouldn't respond a couple of years ago. It was so terrifying and the feeling of utter helplessness I hope I will never go through again. She's fine now.
Buggered up my first solo flight at the landing. The wheels bounced and I lost control as the plane skidded and spun off the runway. Despite the relative safety I was in, all I could think was that the plane would flip and I was about to die.
My mums friend got embarrassed that I did but I'm sorry, if she couldn't see how me thinking I'd lost what I love most in this world made me cry then I feel sorry for her kids. When I was working as a site labourer, they were dropping a staircase into some flats and we had to guide it into place to avoid it damaging any of the brickwork - too many feet in one small space and my hard hat got knocked of my head - my head ended up trapped between a ton of staircase being lowered by a crane and a brick wall, scariest few seconds i can think of. I think I just started screaming for them to all lift it, they heaved it up for a second and I managed to get out before my head was crushed. It still makes me feel a bit sick sometimes when I think about it, still I got the rest of the day off so not all bad.

When I went to Hawaii, a friend of mine was driving very recklessly as we travelled up a mountain to try and beat he previous times. This involved purposefully last minute breaking and over-intense steering, which scared but generally amused us all. Off the side of the road were some extremely high steep cliffs with no crash barriers![]()

The car didn't lose control, the person driving it did. He sounds like a complete ****** but hopefully the shock taught him a lesson and he grew up a bit?

I remember talking to some relatives just before they went on holiday to Corisca. A few weeks later I heard that through no fault of their own, the hire car they were driving went off the edge and of course, they died. What you wrote reminded me of that, you were lucky.![]()

I know what you mean about the sense of sickness in hindsight.
