What's the most sensible way to go about things?

Who actually brakes on a corner? Unless you want to go sliding down the road of course..

You've more chance of getting through it by leaning more rather than braking to slow down.

Nobody really. Braking in a corner is a bad idea. But braking as you approach the corner as you get your line, speed and gears right is perfectly normal.

Um when I did my 3 day DAS it was fully one on one with every day spent out riding. I've ridden bikes before so 2 1/2 days with the test in the afternoon was totally fine. There was another guy in the same school we met for lunch, never ridden or driven before but he passed first time after 4 1/2 days training and the instructor said he was perfectly fine.

So safe enough to not kill yourself after a 5 day DAS, yeah totally. Good enough to pass a police spec test or win a race of course not.

Oh thats fair enough then. DAS must have changed since I did my bike test 10 years ago. I could have sworn I remembered people in groups riding around car parks and in lines down the road with only a couple of instructors

Or maybe the training school round by us was rubbish :D

I did my CBT last weekend and had my first lesson on a 500 yesterday, I have another tomorrow and then another 4 next weekend. I am doing my MOD1 the following week then hopefully my MOD2 the week after. Not doing the full DAS but would rather do lessons 1 on 1

All the best Woogie!

1 on 1 or 2 students 1 instructor is fine. I was a bit of both but then I would rate my instructor 10/10. Everything he taught me has stuck and I find myself trying to do everything the he taught whilst out on my own.

Some areas charge (about £40 for a whole day) and some don't.. I signed up but they kept trying to book me in a london zone. Given I ride a Supermoto by the time I get there I'll be done for, let alone spending the rest of the day riding.

Did you have prior experience on a motorbike other than cbt before you started on a 500 ?

No I had no previous experience before my CBT but I seem to have taken to it quite well. Instructor has told me to book my Mod 1 after just 2 4 hr lessons (I have 2 more before the Mod1 as well) and thinks I can start on Mod2 things fairly quickly and should have everything wrapped up before the end of July.

I do intend to do the advanced rider courses as well after this but for the moment getting my MOD2 booked seems to be a problem due to very limited availability

I attended a Bike Safe in Surrey about 2 months after passing my DAS. Was one on one with a copper who was a really nice bloke.

When I said I wanted training in central London traffic as that's where I spend most of my time as I work on the bike his head dropped, as everyone else in the group were asking for speed training, cornering, country road etc.

Learned how to break some DAS habits and got some great tips on filtering and spacial awareness, then he took me to Ripley Road near Guildford and showed me how it was done - left me for dust.

Great day, do it as soon as you can. You'll also get a discount on your insurance through most insurance companies. Unfortunately due to budget cuts places are few and far between now, some districts have stopped doing them altogether.
