Ok time for a new card i think, i dont want a top of the range thing but can spend up to £200. Bit confused over all the models about at the moment so looking for advice.

My current machine is intel Quad Q8200 and 6gigs ram, windows 7. Dual monitors, i do a lot of photography work and loads of Flight sim X which runs maxed out fine but i get the feeling it could be smoother with a newer card :)

Looks like the GeForce GTX 275 is the one or the 260, are they hugely faster than the 8800gtx?

you got £200 i would wait and see if nv GF100 which is out around the middle of year, if fermi is priced well and in good suppy you'll get more for your money.

If you cant wait get this Asus ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB

A 275 must be about roughly twice as fast as an 8800GTX but you'd be far better off getting a 5850....if you can find one in stock.

I'd get a 5850 its a cracking card, most can overclock to almost a 5870.

And for the above comment i wouldnt wait on the fermi cards tbh,
1) Thye wont be here till march atleast.
2) They won't be priced well.

wait for the fermi, then decide

I wouldn't hold my breath on Fermi atm, Nvidia fans have waited long enough, meaning, if you really need an upgrade, just go ATI. The card isn't going to jump out your case and kill you in your sleep for sporting Nvidia beforehand.

oh im not bothered wether its ati or nvidia, i just want a decent card :)

So whats this Fermi thing? is it a new midrange card then or a new top end one that will push the prices of the cheaper cards down more?

I'll go check out the 5850 things in the meantime.

Thanks :)

Can't understand people recommending waiting on Fermi. Sure it might be good, but pricing, actual availability/release date, and reliable info on performance and power consumption simply aren't available.
