Quite simply, im taxed till end of next month but MOT has just about run out, will be getting it done forthwith but prolly be a week or so without.

Worst case scenario i get pulled what am i up for?

And yes i know im killing babies etc...blah blah...i do all my own servicing and bar the emissions stuff i know my car is ship shape.

Rent a car for a week it will probably work out cheaper than if you do get stopped.

Just think, fine, points and increase in insurance. Imagine if the worst happens and your insurance is invalid.

Not worth the day in court IMO.

Emmmm - no insurance, driving without mot.
Well as far as I'm aware no MOT does NOT mean no insurance. It might go against you in a claim but I'm pretty sure it doesn't just invalidate your insurance straight off.

But I'm no pro on this so could be wrong.

My mot ran out on my car and I didnt notice, I learnt the hard way by accident!

I had been pulled over and given a producer, next day I realised that I couldnt produce a valid mot (ran out 2 weeks before) so I went and got one done that day. I then took all my documents to the police station and explained why the mot date was the day before and they said that as it was done so quick they probably wouldnt follow it up....

Until 5 months later I got a letter in the post with the title "Salford County Council Vs Me"
The charge was driving without a valid mot.
I plead guilty via post with a short letter explaining the situation.
I got £40 fine and £45 costs. I belive its the lowest fine they give out which was awesome!, no points for me, woo!

Its a non endorseable offence. Worst case scenario is the car is not roadworthy which means you have no insurance either which could be 6 months jail for a bad accident.
If your sure the car is ok to drive then its not the end of the world

Penatly for no MOT? Could be death if there's a problem not spotted :) Unlikely I know.

Just get it done.

MOT only means the car is safe for the time it was tested. It could leave the garage and the calpiers could fall off the next week or so.. Still got an MOT.. doesnt mean the car is safe :)

not having an MOT is not an endorsable offence! I wish people on here would sometime research before posting dumb answers like

'no mot OMFGBBQWTF = no insurance!

You cannot get done, you'll get a slap on the wrist, no points, possibly a fine and told to get your MOT done ASAP.

If it's only just run out, then as long as you get it done soon I doubt there will be any problem. Being away a lot my mot/tax over overruns by a 2-3 weeks. If you've got a good record of keeping it done they won't hassle you. I've never been hassled for late mot or tax. I've always got in touch to explain that I';m out of the country - they're actually rather helpful and understanding. If you take the mickey and do it willfully then I you may well stray into trouble - but then I'd have little sympathy ;)

That site is actually wholly inaccurate and contradicts itself.

Why link to a 'possible fine' of £1000 when the fine for no insurance (which according to that site is a £5000 fine and 6-8 points), (its actually £6k for no insurance). So surely the fine for no MOT should be more.

Also, the more accurate site that you link to (the offical Highway code, not some MOT site produced by a 2 year old for his school project) states that you 'MAY' invalidate your insurance.

Unless having an exclusion for no MOT is suddenly a new revision to my Policy Document, it is unlikely that I will get 'done' for no insurance.

You are reading too much into this.

If you just get pulled and 'produced' your vehicle is insured, its just your MOT thats invalid.

If you were to have an accident on the other hand. AND ONLY IF THE POLICE WERE CALLED TO THAT ACCIDENT and producer issued. Then and only then might you be in trouble for having an invalid MOT.

In a normal accident (say where you hit someone up the bum), your insurance company wont ask for your MOT certificate, so, they're not ever going to know if you have an MOT or not!

Ok, worst case scenario, granted.

You hit someone, you block the road, the police are called, you have to produce your documents.

You have an invalid MOT. Chances are the insurance company will still NOT know anything about it, unless the police persue it, but its not their call.

So go and get it done today, will take 30 minutes and pass with flying colour if your car is as ship shape as you say it is.
