Whats the significance of a suntan?

I'm a brown man but prefer my women red headed or verry brunette and pale as death, i think i have issues

Too much exposure to ultraviolet radiation, but yes.

Your body increases production of melanin in response to damage caused by exposure to UV, which absorbs and therefore blocks UV (to an extent). The same properties that make it block UV also make it block visible light, so it appears black and therefore dyes skin (which is as white as paper by itself).

So the significance of a suntan is that it shows that you'll damage yourself for fashion. Maybe fatally - UV can cause skin cancer.

I think I'll pass.

In East Asia I actually think darker-skinned women are more attractive, despite themselves thinking the opposite.

I don't particularly appreciate the look of a suntanned body, I think that girls with nice milky white skin look better than those who are tanned. We used to have a doris at work who looked fantastic for ten months of the year but I thought she looked terrible for the two months after she went on holiday because she came back all tanned.

Ironically, I tan quite well. I don't need to be out in the sun long to tan.

Being pale is associated with being sickly, and tan seen as healthy.

Just silly to me.
