Whats the stock Vcore of a Intel Q9400??

It should be as it is rated to be (VID). This is the range for this series - 0.850v - 1.3625v. It can be anything in between. There is no fixed voltage for any processor afaik.

Thats weird? anyway according to cpu-z im @ 1.272V so it looks like im fine then. Thanks.

VID was added to intel processors at the same time P4 switched to FSB800, before then early northwoods were 1.5V, and willimotte P4's were 1.75V.

I dont know what year AMD added VID to their processor lineup, but it was probably around the same time as intel.

If your not overclocking then I think it should be a bit lower. If you look at the review of the Q9400 I posted earlier they are running it at 1.19V stock.
Try setting yours to 1.2V..it should run fine and will lower your temps.

here's another review where it's even lower at stock..

Thanks i will try that. I will do a bit of overclocking at some stage, i got to swat up on my board again ive had it so long, theres settings in the bios eist and hyper path 3 ect, that need disabling for stable overclocks. Cheers. :)

Great discussion out here but i have problem if i I wish, to over clock my q9400 to 3.0 GHz ya 3.2ghz.Then what will I have to do definitely, how much voltage will I have to increase?Do you have any idea regarding that.

Not true, most cpus up to the Pentium 4, Athlon64 era had known stock voltages.

I meant "any current CPUs". Obviously the process of production has changed a little over the years.

To the OP - run your setup using optimal/default setting in BIOS and then check the volts in CPU-Z. If it shows off 1.272V then this is what you have as your VID. It doesn't really matter cause you can always undervolt it and/or overclock it...
