Whats this called and how do i go about getting one?

Basically i have a MSI 790FX - GD70 that has a broken part on it, i dont want to go about buying bits to build up a new system yet as i dont know if this board works.

I need the part shown in the image, so that i can test the board when i start gathering the bits...anyone know where i can get one from or even if they are available as a spare.

My google skills have failed me on this occassion as i dont even know what its called.

well you cant get one of them you'll have to buy a new motherobard.
put a cheap am2 chip in it to see if it works

Weren't they called ZIFF sockets back in the day? Might've changed in recent times.

Out of curiosity, is that some kind of gunk in some of the individual socket holes? Not going to ask how the socket got cracked though

i bet someone didnt know what they was doing and just tried to force the cpu out, I've built a computer out my old bits n bobs for my next door neighbour, the next week he said he broke the computer i go round and the cpu socket was in two pieces god knows why he tried to remove the cpu.

on the last pick there are 3 gold pins missing on the top left hand corner, i will be suprised if it works

Don't think there should be pins there anyway, but the socket does look to have thermal paste in it. You could try cleaning this out and like said try a cheap am2 cpu in the motherboard. The plastic bit that is actually broken moves back and forward to lock the cpu in place. My guess is if you cleaned the paste out properly this will work

Ye something like that. Not sure how to spell it.

I would say the Mobo is scrap and buy a new one.....

Have to ask but how the hell did you damage that one like that. lol
I have done some daft things in my time but never broke a doda before.
