Whats with tescos poland food shelf?

The Tesco in town that isn't very big has half an aisle of polish stuff. Some of the meats are really nice and there is also this fruit juice that comes in a glass bottle, It's like papaya, mango and something else and is incredibly tasty.

The Beckton (Gallion's Reach) branch would have many members of this forum fuming. They have a dedicated Halal butcher and meat isles (OMG MUSLIMS!!1). Polish food isle, a Carribean food isle (mostly stocked with ginger ale and Supermalt - ha!) *and* a world foods isle.

they had polish food shops in nelson. we had a young blonde polish girl working as a temp, she was fit as ****. Then they let her go and I had to shop at Netto to purve at her.

in the world food isle over her we get british stuff but its like $9 for a bottle of vimto.

Crewe and Stafford have Polish shops because the towns have a lot of Poles (also Lidel).

There seem to be a lot of fatty sausage things, but it's interesting to see what they like to eat, although it's pretty much the same as Germany.

Our local Sainsburys has a "world food" section. Bizarrely, some bits like coconut cream are a fraction of the cost of the same item elsewhere in the shop.

I spotted that myself. Buy a can of coconut milk from the Caribbean section and its 50p. Buy Blue Elephant branded coconut milk from the regular Indian/Asian section and its nearly £2. Same goes for the spices for making curries.

My local Morrisons has an entire aisle of Polish, Asian, Caribbean, Turkish, Greek and Irish foods. They clearly do it because such people would just go to the local shops that sell all these kinds of wares.

Yea, my ASDA has a big Asian and Polish selection. Some really interesting and tasty things (and other horrible stuff). As someone else mentioned, they often have the same products elsewhere in the shop but more expensive. Spices and rice are two that spring to mind.

It also works the other way, I've been into British food shops in Prague and Moscow and my father used to go to one in Nigeria. Apparently Marmite was like gold in Nigeria with the expats!

Anytime I've seen a British section abroad though, it tends to cost a fortune. I was in France a few years ago and a bag of Kettle Chips was nearly £5!

I lived in switzerland for 5 years and some of the shops did have a british corner with Heinz beans, HP sauce, marmite, Colmans mustard, some early grey tea, Worcestershire sauce etc. Kind of funny, but useful to get things like Worcestershire sauce for marinades.
