What's your car's annoying foibles?

My back seats are tiny! There used to be a very annoying rattle coming from the dash somewhere..... I just noticed the other day though that it has gone (the rattle not the dash) :) Oh and my exhaust temperature light is permanently on (after fitting a lovely SS cat back). Well execpt in winter when it starts to get colder, then the light is on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off,on........ it's very annoying!!

All you need to do to stop the light is earth the lead for the exhaust temperature probe somewhere, apparently. Mine does it but I just can't be bothered to get under the car to sort it.

Apart from the rather worn steering rack, which isn;t really the cars fault, the one ridiculous design feature in the civic is the head lamp flasher. If you pull the stalk back to flash the headlamps, it changes from dip to main or back, and as this is purely mechanical you don't know what you're going to get when you turn the lights on. I've annoyed a few people by apparently flashing main beam at them when I was just turning on the lights and quickly moving back to dip.

New shape focus:

Badly designed door pockets. Put something into them, eg mobile, and you need to have double jointed wrists to get it back out.

Location of speedo/steering wheel. No matter how I adjust it, I cant see any speeds from 50 - 100mph.

Turning circle - this maybe becasue I've come from a RWD car, but seems quite poor.

Spare wheel - the way the jack and wheel fits together makes it a right paid to put it back in. In fact I tried for half an hour and the screw in clamp still ownt reach so I gave up.

Other than that its not bad really. I just find the little touches and design elements you get in a better quality car are missing, but on the plus side when on the road its good fun, smooth, quiet(ish) and remarkable free of and squeeks or rattles.

On the ZX9R:

Rattles! Everything rattles on these bikes, from the floating discs to the fork guards with have an annoying amount of play even when tightened up. Theres even a website set up to list cures for all the different things that rattle!

Reserve tap - really awkward place and quite stiff, making it almost dangerous to turn on the move.

On the plus side, wearing earlplugs and going faster negates the rattling and a tank range of 150 miles before reserve means I can usually avoid that too.

Current Car,

You have to have the clutch down to start it (it comes from a country when law suits outnumber stick shifts).

Last Car,

Red lights coming on every time I went round a corner fast, oh and it used 2 litres of oil a month.

Interim Car,

Engine fan ****** so it could get hot,
Drivers door hinge had dropped so I wouldn't shut easily,
Air Con was stinky,
Boot didn't always lock with the central locking,
Throttle and Clutch really heavy and didn't move smoothly,
It leaked,

Is that on an EP3? Mine needs to be pushed forward for full beams. My 206 had the same setup though, rather annoying!

The handbrake is comically poor. It's seriously virtually useless.

Same on mine, good to know they never fixed it :p

Thats and my steering slants to the left a bit. And the boot opens itself random.

For the last 12 months the nearside speakers crackle every time I turn right :(
On day I`ll get around to fixing it, probably the day before I sell it :o

Saab:

RATTLES!!!!! Absolutely everywhere, it's like two skeletons ******* on a tin roof:mad:
Autobox can be a bit excitable and kick down for no real reason, othertimes it lurches from gear to gear like it's being changed by a geriatric with arthritis.
It's a bit slow, really :(

GT6C:

Noisy, but what the heck, that's a straight six with a sports exhaust for you.
Seems to run out of puff at around 5k or so, I would rebuild the carbs if I was keeping it.
Pancake filters look good and give a nice induction noise, but suck lots of haot air in when the underbonnet temps get high in slow traffic resulting in poor pickup and a tendancy to stall occasionally, which is excaserbated by,
The starter gets cooked while standing in traffic, resulting in no start if it does stall. It soon cools down, but it leaves you looking a fool for a few minutes:)

Stag:
Leaks a bit in the rain, when going downhill. The seal on the drivers side is a little worn but that's easy to sort.
Gearbox vibrates like a rampant rabbit plugged into the mains. That will be cured when I do the mechanics later in the year.
Vinyl seats make your bum sweat :(
Needs more power

Volvo 850:
- ABS is ******.
- Alarm is ******.
- Heated seats are ******.
- Bit noisy when cruising, the straight 5 giving quite an odd tone that is very good at sending me to sleep :s
- Rear visibility is hampered by an almost completely pointless spoiler
- Side visibility is bad due to very thick pillars
- Steering lock isn't particularly good, making low-speed manouvering difficult. Apparently it's better than the old 940 and 740 though.
- It's an auto - a pretty good one as they go, with a sport mode that is actually useful and very handy winter mode, but it's still an auto.

BMW K75RT
- Rear brake disk is warped slightly, making low speed control even more difficult. Will be replaced soon.
- Fairing is a little too effective in hot weather.
- Front end a little light and low on grip when pushing hard, not that I do it often.

Surprisingly few on my 111R...

Reverse gear can take up to 5 attempts to get when the car is cold.

Ticking from the engine tappets, it's not that bad but passengers always ask about it.

Few random rattles at certain, usually low, RPMs/resonances - no worse than a french car though.

Every time I hear a stone hit it I get one more grey hair.

Fan heater resistor pack thingy has gone so the fan either piddles air out or boosts it out.

Erm, door sill is slightly rusty?

and the trailing arm bushes probably need replacing soon.

Leon Cupra R:

The sill inside the passanger door fills with water if it's been raining when parked. If it's been raining I have to open the passanger door for it to drain away before driving off otherwise it starts running down into the pasanger footwell while driving. There's an easy fix for it but can't be bothered to do it yet.

Lack of interior storage. CD changer is in the glovebox so all i can fit in there is a bag of chrisps. Which only leaves the small door pockets.

Headlights are a bit pants. I've got some better bulbs but it's a bit of a pain fitting, I'll wait until the autumn when it gets dark earlier.

Battery cant hold its power, ive had to jumpstart no end of times. Got to buy a new battery :(

Suspension creaks when handbrake is applied on an incline.

Clock doesnt work :(

Made of cheese. :D
Could be worse, mine is made of spam tins :D

Oooh how could I forget my bike...

The sparkplug lead fatigues after about 10,000 miles. Except it's glued into the coil so you have to change the coil at the same time. Except to change the coil you have to take all the bodywork off. Oh and then you can't get the plug lead off the plug because it's too close to the frame so you have to drop the engine. Except to drop the engine you need to take the back suspension. Except to do that you need to take the stand off the bike so there's nothing to support it so you need an engine crane to hold the bike up. What a load of complete ********

The engine oil needs to be changed every now and then. All engines need their oil changed at some point. So why why WHY Piaggio did you think that blanking off the sump plug was a good idea?

And why fit an immobiliser if it drains the battery flat in a week?

And why fit a kick start if you can't start the engine on it?
