When are the RTX 3090 reviews out

Moore's Law Is Dead posted a video a week before the 3080's launch saying that Nvidia never planned to sell many of the FEs because the cooler is way too expensive to make for a card sitting at MSRP. Obviously that's not anything official, but everything he claimed about the launch came to pass. It seems like more of a marketing gimmick to advertise the product than a genuine alternative to the more expensive custom cards.

Yeah he wasn't wrong, this Ampere launch is a complete joke.

Rather disheartening that even then its only 78fps so no doubt there would be dips under 60 probably.

I guess we will have to wait a generation or two before we can be confident of a card that can maintain a solid 4k 60fps in next gen titles.
possibly but if your buying a 3090 i would assume most people have a freesync or gsync display (if they game)

looking at RDR2 my current card at 4K On Low/medium gets 38FPS (1080Ti) so will be a nice boost for me indeed & will skip a gen or two.
also will help with my actual Work too need all the VRAM i can get :)

Based on what exactly? GPU-Z VRAM measurements? That only tells you how much VRAM is allocated, not how much is actually used and needed.

Besides that, when you're actually playing a game (particularly a frantic action game) you're not going to be able to tell the difference between ultra and high res textures. Turning a setting down a little is hardly the end of the world?

and what about games that use mods which further ups vram reqierment?

lmao at the review of the strix oc 3090 saying the card is still power limited at 480W

I also not that it would do much much better under water as when testing the card went to 76C which probably means its lost 30Mhz of boost

Never thought i would see the day when a review of a card said that 480W wasnt enough...............

I guess the question nobody can answer without a doubt is whether NV makes more profit from their own FE GPU's or AIB's? I assume the former. Shipments to the likes of EVGA I would think are a lower wholesale cost.
Will be interesting to see how the stock levels are moving forward, notably, the FE's. I'll see if I can do a few random spot checks per day to see if any appear available to buy :).

Yeah, what about that? By the time that increases visual fidelity to the point where it makes a difference in actual gameplay that probably affects performance negatively. And you want to pay over 110% the price to gain ~13% more performance just so you can cram textures in the VRAM, be my guest. It's still, and always will be, a terrible value for money card for gaming.

what about future proof though. if you want to game at 4k max settings 10gb is just about enough ..hows that going to fair next year when console games come out? i really dont think 10gb is going to last very long. which is the only reasson i would go for a 3090 now over the 3080.
You mean the console games that are sharing 16GB of system memory between the CPU and GPU compared to 10GB of dedicated GPU memory? If you think it won't last, simple, buy it, then buy the RTX 3080Ti or 4080 that has more VRAM and sell your RTX 3080. Still save money compared to getting this overpriced, power hungry card.

This morning at around 5am the 3080 FE cards on the NV site changed from "Out of Stock" to "Add to Cart" for about half an hour and some forum members on here managed to order a card. So I was saying I'm not getting up early tomorrow to see if the same thing happens again.

I see, much appreciated!
