When I fancy a change or get bored, some cars I keep for months and other years.

Think my shortest owned daily was the Golf R.
My longest daily was the 911, though in ownership terms I've owned M3 longer but its more a track and fun car rather than a daily, though it has done that job very well also.

Usually when I get bored or if my mileage changes. Less miles = more fun cars :p

My daily is a gt86 atm. It's holding it's value pretty well too. I don't actually plan on selling it though, if I need to change I'll keep it and buy another car as the runaround.

1st car - megane - first car, bought it because it was cheap (about 12 yrs old), junked it when the welding bill was more than the value (about 5 years later).
2nd car - astra H (lowest spec), bought it at 1 year old to avoid initial depreciation, had it for about 5 years, replaced (part-ex) when it started feeling like something wasn't right.
3rd car - astra K (highest spec), bought it at 1 year old to avoid initial depreciation, still have it (2 years so far), no plans to sell it at any particular time, I really like this car so I'll run it until there's an issue.

so I guess it's roughly:
buy: 1 year old
sell: 5 years later

vauxhalls depreciate like crazy. you should buy at 2-3 years old they will be like 10% of the new cost.

I think it's mostly been because of changing circumstances or it's getting too old and could start to become unreliable.

The only reason i'll be changing one of our cars now will be because the wifes car is just too small now we've had a child and a suzuki swift sport is never going to be a family vehicle.

Then i'll change mine when it gets too old or unreliable but should get a few years out of it yet with some luck.

3 years usually, I get an itch for something new then.

Longest I've owned a car is just over 4 years.

Current car is a 2 year PCH, and hoping to get an EV next - subject to what's available then.

My last car was sold because the mechanic said it looked like it had been parked in the sea.

Current car is basically stuck together and somehow getting by. I'll sell it for pennies soon. But only because I'm moving countries.

I usually change my car when I can't do any further maintenance work on them myself and it's more economical to part exchange/private sell against another vehicle I'm more interested in:

Triumph Spitfire 1500 - 2 years
Ford Escort 1.4 - 1 year
Corsa B 1.4 - 1 year
*Triumph Spitfire 1300 - 2 years
*Corsa B 1.7D - 18 months

Peugeot 206 - 2 years
Mazda RX8 - 3 years
Corsa B 1.2 SXI - 3 years
Toyota MR2 MK2 - 3 months so far, definitely a keeper.

* owned these two at the same time
