When you sell a car .... Overselling?

heavily treated so they have a uniform dark glossy black finish on a 2nd hand car is another)

Heavily treated? What?

Have you ever used tyre shine? It takes quite literally no more than 10 or 15 seconds to apply, per wheel. And all it does is make the rubber black rather than grey or brown, it's not exactly going to hide scuffs and cracks in the sidewall.

Spray/Wipe on, wipe off. Job done.

By heavily treated (probably not the best useage) I didn't mean as in a complex treatment I just meant that as you approach the car the first thing you notice is the wheels are standout glossy black even more so than brand new tyres and regardless of the logic of it the first thing that comes to mind is "theres something to hide" regardless if thats true or not.

Not picking on this garage or car specifically but was browsing around recently a couple of garages including this and it just looks really odd on a 5+ year old car when the tires look like: http://www.autowestcars.co.uk/used-cars/volkswagen-golf-1-6-s-fsi-5dr-yeovil-201227477837475

I can't see why someone making a car look clean and presentable for a sale is in any way a bad thing?

Making it clean and presentable is one thing, making the tires look like something they are not - which will just wear off in a few miles another.

A guy came to look at my Mondeo that he wanted to PX his Skoda Octavia vRS for. I cleaned up the Mondeo as I usually did, it looked as mint as possible. When he showed up in the Octavia it was filthy outside, the outside hadn't seen a vacuum for at least a couple of months and it came complete with chewed off finger nails... Nice!

Clean tyres look good. Overly shiney however, I do not like as much. BUT if I'm buying ANY car, I fully expect it to be as clean as possible and if I am selling a car I will try my hardest to get it looking as good as possible.

Why you WOULDNT clean it is beyond me, just shows you don't give a **** about the car and is potentially not well looked after.
