My RCL keyfob for my MkII Mondeo is kerput. I know how to program it myself, can I buy a blank from anywhere? I'm thinking maybe £20-30?

Thanks :)

A Ford garage? I had to buy new keys for my Fiesta last month as I lost the only original key for it, had to get AA to bust it open and everything. Cost me £75.11 for the privalege of Mr Ford to get me 2 new ones too.

Hi, be careful with the Mk 2 mondeo mind, as to program a new key for the PATS immoboliser, you need 2 identically already programmed keys to program the pats of the new key as it is not like the Mk 1 were you only needed 1 key to do it.

I only had one key with my Mk 2 6 months ago and have to get a key of ebay and then go to ford and pay £55 for them to program that key to the PATS of the car. Not a simple case of program from 1 key on it.

Thread ressurrection!

I didn't bother in the end and have been manually (!) locking my car.

Surely it's a case of ignition on/off 4 times with existing key, wait for LED on dash, then click the new fob. Wait 1 min. Ignition on/off once more. New RCL fob programmed to my car?

Hi, yes for the remote central locking part, but also there is a chip in the key which allows you to start your car, and without it you can't. So you have to program the PATS immoboliser chip in the key to the same code as the one stored in the ECU to start the car.

This requires 2 keys with the same code to program via the ignition as you must put the 2 keys in during the programming and then insert the blank key. Otherwise, your method will only program the RCL fob to open and lock the car and you won't be able to start the car with that key as the chip will be unprogrammed.

Hope this helps.

Fairly sure I only needed the red master key when I recoded a 3 button fob from a focus to work with my Mk2 mondeo. But I do think the process did change with some of the later year cars, mine is a 98.

my dads is a 99 mk2 and he needs 2 keys IIRC to program others :)
