Where can I get a cat from?

We wanted a kitten but we found it was pointless going to the local rescue places. They have around a 2 month waiting list and then you get what you are given. There are so many people wanting to rescue kittens. I'd recommend going there if you don't mind an older cat though as there are many wanting a home.

We wanted a kitten as we already have two older cats and another senior cat probably wouldn't have worked. Luckily in the supermarket on the way home I spotted an advert for some kittens locally, we went round and they had one left who we fell in love with. Best £20 I've ever spent. ;)

Here she is with her surrogate 'mother' Barney:

We got our current cat from a rescue centre.
There was certainly no home check before we took her on - and it is a large, well known rescue centre (Woodgreen).
Once we were more or less ready to take the cat on they asked us a few questions about home:

Do you live on a busy street
Do you have a garden
Are there lots of cats in the area
Could you fit a cat flap

We answered all of the questions, they looked over our answers and after asking about the answer we gave to a cat flap (no we don't have one and unfortunately no way of really fitting one) we were more or less approved there and then.
We took our time looking at all of the cats and made a list of about 4-5 we liked.
We then went and met each of them and eventually "Tabatha" chose us.

There was then a two day delay while she had a final check-up with the rescue centre vet and also had a few more jabs and then she was all ours.

OP - You really should go to the centre and look at the cats together.
Remember you are not really chosing the cat - rather the cat is chosing you.
Kittens are a lot of work - I've had a kitten in the past and knowing how much work they are we decided on an older cat this time.
Don't get me wrong kittens are cute - but an adult cat will give you just as much enjoyment.
