Where did you go on your bike today?

I did my first track day at Bedford Autodrome yesterday, it was tons of fun. I was slightly nervous at first lining up next to proper track bikes on my SV650 but once out on track it was just great, being able to push the corners without fear of a hedge.

I had a couple of hairy moments where I braked way too late for tight hairpin and later on scraped my toe on the floor while leaning. It has certainly highlighted how rubbish my front suspension and brakes are, I'd like to change the springs and oil but I need paddock stands and all that so it might take a while (supposed to be saving :/).

Good stuff, I've just booked two track days, one for April 20th and one 14th May at Oulton Park, haven't done one since last year, gone into Intermediates... I'm so rusty but it'll come back!

Well done on toes down, craps you up don't it mate when you first do it, you can't or don't tend to on the road, but on a track first time I did, I crapped myself lmfao.

Yeah I really don't push very hard on the road, plenty of nice rural places near me but none of the wide open curvy roads you see on car adverts so I'm quite cautious on corners. Being able to just go for it was amazing, next time will have to be May I think though.

I had to find a nice spot to take pictures of my new tank pads :p

There was a landslide on the pass though so I couldn't go all the way through. The video will be very funny though!

Nexus 5 phone camera. With the light in Switzerland every camera takes great pictures even on non-ideal days like today.

Same phone took this on an ideal day:

Obviously they're resized for the forums as they're 3200 pixels across normally. No editing has been done on them either.

Ermm... I enjoy'ed modding the Duke and SV. I would prefer better roads and weather in the UK. I guess, as long as you can have an aftermarket exhaust its worth the sacrifice, can you've a tail tidy over there?

Thanks for reminding me, I still need to look for one last mod for the SV. Cheap and should have an affect on how the bike looks. :D

You can only get parts if they have been approved be someone else (a madman with too much money normally), and you have an official importer who gets you the permit for the part (very rare for non-common parts like exhausts).

The approval costs about £2000, and the permits cost about £130.

If you're willing to spend the money and they pass regulations you can mod anything you want. Emissions and sound levels are very strict here though.

I am very happy to forgo modding the bike to ride in this glorious place for 8 months of the year.

Went to the Bigger better breakfast yesterday where there were hundreds of bikes everywhere. Had a massive breakfast then off to Wales for the day to see some sheep ;) We ended up at the Ponderosa Cafe on the horseshoe pass, that place is pretty high up. Looked over the edge and got pretty dizzy for a moment

That sucks... but I guess its worth the sacrifice for the roads and views. :p

The horseshoe pass is a great place to visit, what was the weather like? It's been raining here virtually none stop last few days:(

Not been to the Ponderosa Cafe yet, aim to sometime this year

Weather was fine, lots of clouds but no rain. Wind wasn't to bad either considering how high up it is. Deffo recommend a visit there. Going to have to get myself a Drift Ghost S so I can get some footage of outings.

Nowhere :(

If I worked in central London, I'd ride in, without a doubt. Even on the fast train out of London St Pancras, it took me 2 hours to get home, door to door from the place I'm training in, which is 3 minutes walk from Liverpool street tube station. Google maps reckons 56 minutes without traffic, so say 1hr 20 with traffic and finding a parking spot.

That's before you've taken into account cost... £5800 a year it would cost for me to do this journey by train/tube! £1900ish for petrol by bike @50mpg (or an extra £1100 over the £800 a year I'm currently paying for fuel). I know there's extra tyres and servicing etc but that's probably only another £500.

I like being in central London but **** getting there!! :D

London truly is just a full on rat race. The city is nice and all every now and again, but sod commuting there.

Yeah I do love the mix of culture and big shiny things and just endless choice of places to eat/see/do stuff (had a quick walk around spitalfields market at lunch today) but the packed tube and everyone in each others way on the commute just ain't fun. I need to do some more day tips to London though, it's just so different to anywhere else in the UK. In a good way, I think... :D

I must admit there was something quite nice about sitting on the train doing 140mph watching everything fly by.
