Where do you get your tyres from?

I've always used kwikfit or local indies.

Simply print off best net price, take it in and haggle. I've always got better deals talking to someone face to face.

Plus it's nicer I think to support your local outfit.

Bracknell Tyre & Battery [edit] to get the Lotus sizes at a good price, just have to get there first thing as it gets very busy , plus they know the special jacking proceedure for the tub. For the Toyo R888's I get them from Mike Stokes Motorsport in Bournemouth, decent bloke who really looks after his customers. I might give C&S Tyres in Middlesbrough a go as their prices are extremely tempting.

[edit] its BT & B, as mentioned below

I've normally used the main dealers, the honda dealer could consistantly beat mytyres for Bridgestone RE10's.

The audi dealer has given me a very good deal on all inclusive maintainance (service/consumables/tyres) so it'll be going back to them for at least the first 3 years.

I've used Kwik-Fit for years, never had a problem.

used them a couple of times when i was 18. always had problems. couldnt balance a wheel, fit broken brake pads, cross threaded the bolt onto my hub...

never again.

lesson learnt.

local independent or internet is my recommendation.

used to use micheldever tyres when i lived out that way and now use Elite. :)

I got my Eagle F1s (GS-D2) for my Xsara in the same size from mytyres, ~£60 each last year. None of the local places could match that, one quoted me £102 each , we don't have any of the big chains up here. The 50 profile equivalents are usually a fair bit cheaper, however. £78 for GS-D3s in my new size (215/45/17) was a pleasant surprise too :).

Etyres - used them for years now, always had an excellent service and just had 2 Goodyear Eagles fitted last week which I'm very chuffed with :)

Local garage, Valley Tyres. he priced Toyo Proxes, 205/50/16 at the same price as camskill and e-tyres. but that included balancing and fitting!

I have used a local independant here in Exeter for the past 9 years, for all of our cars.
Would not go anywhere else. He will always do me a very good deal, and always looks after me when I go in there. I have recommended several friends to him, and they now always swear by him.

Does anyone know of an easy way to see if your tyres need replacing without going to a garage to check. 1.6mm isn't very easy to check with a ruler!
In between the tread in the grooves, there are small bits of raised rubber. When your tread is level with them it is at the limit. It's usually best to change a bit earlier than that.

Captain - "Tyre Depth Gauge" at your local Halfords or motorfactors

Get my tyres at the local Bathwick, cheaper than internet for the complete deal (fitting, balance, desposal and even tracking). Mytyres would want more just to put the tyres in the post before factoring in fitting costs.

F1 Eagles at my-tyres in 195/55/15 = £86 each
F1 Eagles at Bathwick in same size = £140 fitted, balance, tracked

Hi there

I get them trade, on the Mustang saves me close to £100 per corner over mytyres internet pricing. :)
