Where is the best place to live in Britain?

Nottingham takes a slating on here, disproportionally so in my view. So, I'd like the forum to highlight what it is about certain spots in the country that make them a better place to be.

It could be an idyllic rural beauty spot or in the thick of good nightlife, whatever you judge as appropriate. It could just be somewhere that is cheap to live and safe.

It's simple- where are the best places to live on our island, and why?
 
I'd say Edinburgh but then it is my hometown and I'm biased obviously. That said if I wasn't originally from there I suspect I'd still pick it as it is a beautiful city with a lot to do without being too busy or too overpopulated. It also has fairly large green areas right in the heart of the city or within a five minute walk - Princes St Gardens, The Meadows and Arthurs Seat are all within easy reach. :)

i know i made a thread about it :D , notts was in top 10 dunno how we managed worst when weve actually improved a hell of a lot since last year

they used cctv all over the town centre as a bad point... lol

lol , thinking about it ive had mine put through too :o . i still love the place though. theres much worse places 2 mins up the road yet they wherent even in the top 20


i wouldnt say liverpool has best night life either tbh , london , manchester , liverpool/newcastle

I've been to Middlesbrough and it just felt eerie and rough. That was in comparison to Hull, which was apparently second worst, so that's saying something :p
 
Brighton, one of the quieter parts though such as patcham or ovingdean. Great nightlife, tonnes to do, great looking city.

Though on the cons, it's not cheap to live here, near london prices.

Strangely not. ;) Dundee has a bit of a undeservedly harsh reputation though in my eyes, I've lived here for about 6 years now and I rather like it. It feels like a very small city which has its plus and minus points but overall I'm still happy to stay because I've enjoyed most of my time here. :)

Agreed. It's probably because they were the best 6 years of my life but I loved Dundee. It has a bit of everything and the sun always seemed to be shining in the morning (although it was damn cold 8 months of the year).
 
I thought Norwich was very nice when I went there. Plus I didn't encounter a single wasp despite it being the height of summer.

Good thing I hate the night life in my city then. The people are just pathetic. I once spoke to a Japanese girl who visited Liverpool and she hated it, too.

But then, I hate the whole 'let's get drunk 'cause we're so dumb we have nothing better to do/think of' culture. I bet 75% of the people in Liverpool City Centre at night, are there simply due to boredom.

It's all chav'd up tarts and their egofied male counterparts. Makes me sick, to be frank.

So yeh, definitely not LIVERPOOL KIDDER LIKE LARRRR! *shiver*

I live 20 minutes drive from Norwich. It’s a nice city. :)

Some of the nearby towns such as Great Yarmouth are very rough though.
 
nothing wrong with where i live in hebden bridge outside halifax in the moors and vallies etc :D nice views.

i would like to live in a port (harbor) down cornwall tho like as seen on the tv program Doc Martin

I love the sea side and sea guls and the smell of fish :D
