Im looking to buy my first suit ( for a university interview) somewhere on the high street.

Since its my first, im not planning on getting a tailor made one, as im not loaded. Have any of you guys got any suggestions where i could get a suit with a max budget of about £250

Next do some nice suits well within your price range. You might be better going to a tailors shop though. They'll have a bigger selection of 'off the shelf' suits and will usually do the alterations to make it fit properly free of charge or for a very small fee. You have plenty of choice within your budget.

M&S is pretty good.

Burton is lower down the scale.

For that money I'd say your best bet would be a suit and a couple of shirts and ties.

Marks and Sparks.
Flatmate had to do a presentation at Uni. Got a suit from M&S last weekend. He looked quite smart and liked his suit. Planning to go to Trafford centre with him sometime to get a refill for my Cross pen and look at the suits. Got a presentation to do before Xmas and I think I "need" a suit to be ready for occasions requiring suits.:D

The M&S prices he quoted me were quite good. For what he got the value was pretty good.

striped or plain?

Depends. Pinstripes look quite businesslike, but shouldn't be worn outside work. A plain suit can be worn for any occasion.

Pinstripes can be quite popular with the laydeez...

On the downside, I always feel a bit like I'm wearing pyjamas when I look down at my stripy legs.

My dad, was a tailor for 40 years and swears that you can't buy a better value suit than Marks and Spencers. They buy quality cloth and tailoring and work on minimal markups.

Next are good, they do nice fitted suits - tailored in jackets that aren't baggy and fit perfectly. Just make sure you get an assistant to measure you up and get the right size jacke for you.

Got a nice subtle pinstripe suit from Next about 3 or 4 years ago, it's been worn dozens and dozens of times since and still looks smart, so it's worn very well. I shall be going back to Next when I need a replacement for it.

Sounds like a good endorsement. :)

If only i they made ones big enough for me :( I used to buy from them, but my chest is too big now :(

My dad does most of the stuff for M&S womens and childerens wear and he says that there are few better than M&S when it comes to mens suits. I think he knows quite a bit about tailoring too. Nuff said, thread closed. Seriously.
