where to degister a .com?

Not much of one on £5.48 I'd imagine. Their .uk domains I'd be very surprised if they don't sell at a loss - Nominet charge tag holders £5 + VAT and as Register1 aren't a direct tagholder they have to pay Tucows who they resell, merchant account fees, bank fees and staff before they make a profit on their £5.48 ;).

The idea with Register1, with Registron and in fact with all 'low cost' domain registrars is that a lot of people will buy their hosting too which is far more profitable. It's a form of loss leader.

I'd recommend GoDaddy.com! Really great prices and currently have two domains with them and never had a problem. Their customer service is also spot on!

;)

Are those renewal prices too?

I recently got "stung" if you can say that when i was looking for a cheap domain and went for an info one @ £2.99 a year but now on renewal i have to pay £8.99 a year - if i had known i'd of gone with a co.uk or me.uk for £8.99 for 2 years. Luckily for me the domain name isn't important and so i can just buy a new domain - but would have been majorly annoyed if it were an important domain name

Did I say margin or domains? I just said profit ;)
I guess that depends how the context of the previous posts is interpreted, I didn't think seek would actually think Register1 as a whole made no money :D

random post but, why does the topic in the topic list say

where to degister a .com?

but when you're in the topic reading the posts it says

where to register a .com?
