Where to find bargain phone contracts? Orange being a pain with renewal...

Basically I *was* paying £25 a month direct with Orange for 600 mins xnet, unlimited texts, about 10 magic numbers lol.. broadband at home. No other bundles.

My 18 month contract is now up, they've taken a £5 loyalty discount I had off me meaning I'm now paying £30 a month.

I want a Nokia N86. They want 97 quid if I choose this phone. Tried 2 times in the last month to be told a stern no. Threats of disconnecting are ignored and I'm put straight through to be disconnected after being told that as stated I cannot have the N86 without paying £97.

The clincher is my home broadband chucked in for free. I don't really wanna lose this perk as it saves me a chunk.

I do however now want mobile internet usage so basically I want to pay 30 a month to have everything I have with some net usage on there too, even 20 meg a month would be fine! :)

Any ideas where I can shop to get a good deal close to this? Tips to barter with Orange? Possible places I can upgrade through and keep the broadband?

Thanks guys :)

Were you talking to upgrades? It's retentions (i.e. disconnections) that have the real bargaining power. Ask for and, if necessary, take your PAC. I'm not sure about Orange, but operators will generally call you up a few days after you take your PAC and ask you to reconsider. You're under no obligation to actually use the PAC :)

I also suggest that you look up offers with other providers.

O2 have always been decent, plus I seem to get signal EVERYWHERE. Currently on a rolling month contract for £20, with 1200 xnet mins, practically unlim txts, unlim o2-o2 txts + calls, and some other stuff I don't use :p

How about telling Orange you are thinking about an O2 Sim only deal (£20/month) and using the Web Bolt on for your mobile internet. As an O2 customer you'd
probably be eligible for their half priced home broadband which has 3 months free at the moment too for £9.97 (20Mb line). You could also go through Quidco and get the 12month SIM only deal (same price, just more minutes and texts) and £100 cash back too!

That should get Orange thinking about your custom!

Thanks for the replies guys.

I've just called them to talk about upgrading again (i.e. get back to paying 25 a month for broadband at home, 600 mins xnet, unlimited texts etc) and the Nokia N86 for free. Told them it's the third time I've called. This time, I was told; "Sorry Sir, we no longer sell the N86, but here's a list of phones you can have for free" and all were rubbish.

Disconnections told me exactly the same when I asked to be put through to them. Madness! I didn't ask for my PAC this time as if they don't have the phone then it's a bit awkward anyway. So....

I've been recommended by a few people to go in store at Phones 4 U and they can often do very good deals which Orange would never even get close to offering... so I will try that to save the hassle and if no good, I will leave Orange and go on O2 I think once I've found a good deal.

I want some mobile internet too, it'd come in handy in this day and age.

Cheers for the info guys, will have a browse around at some of that stuff now also.

I had this same problem with orange a little while ago. But carphone warehouse sorted me out, they gave me a new phone for more minutes a month, etc and saved me a tenner a month to boot!

And everything is the same, i still pay my orange bill online thru orange, etc.

Thats pretty cool. I've been recommended to try Phones 4 U and CPW also.. worth a shot.

If I was to leave Orange, inc broadband.. how much of a hassle is it to do?

For example I've seen an O2 deal which is 25 a month, 600 mins, unlimited texts, N86 for free and £100 cashback after 30 days. Would have to pay for broadband but not a bad deal.

So how much will it cost you to just stick with orange? £97 quid for the phone and an extra fiver a month? So over 18 months, an extra tenner a month. Is that really worth worrying about?

Yes. For some, money doesn't grow on trees. Thats 120 quid a year I could save. Why should I pay more when others aren't on new contracts? :)

its not money you could save though

because i cant imagine you will get a deal as good as that elsewhere. it seems very very good for the price

Just renewed my contract with Orange, via Phones 4 U, on another 18 month term.

Free N86
600 mins xnet as before
Unlimited texts as before
I must have about 8 magic numbers by now if I wanna use em lol
Unlimited (fair usage policy applies) mobile internet
Broadband at home also.

£30 a month.
